Blockchain platform Chiliz teams up with Common Goal, an organization that focuses on addressing global social issues through the football community, to organize a charity auction called “One Shirt Pledge” that brings together sports, philanthropy, and Blockchain technology.
First NFTs Minted on Chiliz Chain
The auction, accessible through MatchWornShirt, will take place from August 26 to September 2, 2023. It will introduce the first NFTs minted on the Layer 1 Blockchain, Chiliz Chain, specifically developed for the sports industry in a completely unique way.
In March 2023, One Shirt Pledge invited prominent football players to donate the shirts they wore during matches. Iconic players such as Juan Mata, Victor Osimhen, and Giorgio Chiellini responded by donating their jerseys. Approximately 30 items are expected to be auctioned off as part of this initiative. All these items will include NFC chips to allow the viewing of personalized videos, along with an Authenticity Proof NFT that enables the owners to verify the authenticity of the item.
Furthermore, the Authenticity Proof NFTs will not be digital NFTs. Chiliz has associated them with real sports memorabilia, blending the physical with the digital. The emphasis here is not only on ownership but also on demonstrating how technology can confirm originality and support environmental, social, and corporate governance efforts.
First Collaboration with Common Goal
One Shirt Pledge is the first initiative carried out since Chiliz became a strategic technology partner of Common Goal. Both organizations view Blockchain as a revolutionary mechanism that enhances governance and transparency, rather than just a tool for fundraising. The charity auction aims to translate technology into tangible impact. It offers direct participation and financial contributions to those who support Common Goal’s goals of creating meaningful change in areas such as racial equality, mental health, and gender equality.
CEO of Chiliz, Alexandre Dreyfus, highlighted the transformative potential of combining technology and sports. He noted that associating collectible products with NFTs adds a new layer of ownership and ensures the authenticity of the original items while supporting valuable causes.
