Recently, an important development occurred regarding DRIFT, which was added to Coinbase’s roadmap. The Drift Foundation, responsible for the Solana-based decentralized exchange (DEX) Drift, announced when the DRIFT token will be released and details about the airdrop. This significant event means that 120 million DRIFT tokens, representing 12% of the total supply, will be distributed.
Airdrop Time
The airdrop began on May 16, and a unique distribution of 2%, equivalent to 20 million tokens, took place.
Eligible users will benefit from the initial token allocation during the launch and receive a bonus allocation unlocked within six hours. Additionally, it was noted that users would lose their bonus if they claim the first 100 tokens immediately. The purpose of this implementation by DRIFT is to eliminate early sales and alleviate network congestion.
According to Cindy Leow, co-founder of Drift, this approach demonstrates a commitment to improving user experience.
Leow made the following statement:
Historically, airdrop claims have caused network congestion, resulting in a suboptimal user experience as tens of thousands of users and bots rushed to claim their airdrops.
How Will the Distribution Occur?
The foundation also detailed the tokenomics and distribution plan. The airdrop aims to make user participation meaningful and support on-chain governance. This ensures a fair and inclusive distribution based on early usage of Drift v2, trading activity, and participation in specific programs.
The airdrop announcement positively influenced the perspectives of major cryptocurrency exchanges. For example, Coinbase’s inclusion of the token in its roadmap created a significant buzz. Additionally, Bybit mentioned its listing plans. These announcements by leading industry companies seem to have a positive impact on the token.
According to data provided by DeFiLlama, Drift currently has a total value locked (TVL) of over $333 million, which could increase with growing awareness. However, potential future adversities could negatively impact this value.
