The cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase’s Layer-2 solution Base continued to advance its Onchain Summer campaign, hosting approximately 4 million active addresses last week and capturing everyone’s attention. Base’s president Jesse Pollak shared data from the blockchain analytics platform Dune Analytics, revealing that the Layer-2 network reached an all-time high in weekly active addresses.
What’s Happening on the Base Network?
Jesse Pollak emphasized that there were over 4 million active addresses on the blockchain network last week. The new development came as Base continued its Onchain Summer campaign, which encourages building on the main network.
In 2023, Base launched an Onchain Summer event to promote the adoption of the Layer-2 network. During the month-long event, 268,000 wallets minted over 700,000 NFTs on the network. The campaign witnessed over $242 million in crypto assets being bridged to Base and more than 130,000 unique wallets using the network daily.
Due to its success last year, Base developers brought back the 2024 summer event to encourage building on the blockchain. Base stated that it brought back the event to unleash onchain creativity and invite developers to build throughout the summer.
The Layer-2 network Base allocated 600 Ethereum worth $2 million as a reward for those who will build on it. The event started in June and will end in August.
Details on the Subject
Onchain Summer campaign saw Base collaborate with AtariX, the Web3 arm of video game developer Atari, to bring classic games to the blockchain. AtariX announced on July 25 that it brought the classic arcade game to Base through an onchain arcade. The game developer asked players to create an NFT pass to play the game and rank high on the leaderboard.
However, some believe the Asteroids game is not onchain. On August 5, Stackr Labs founder and CEO Kautuk Kundan claimed to have hacked Atari’s arcade game to prove it was not in the ecosystem. Kundan said he and his team sabotaged Atari’s Asteroids game leaderboard without playing a single game. The executive stated that despite the game’s advertisement, it was not in the ecosystem.
