Democratic presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. confirmed that he has purchased a significant amount of Bitcoin, stating that he has put his words into action. Kennedy revealed that he bought a total of 14 Bitcoins by purchasing two Bitcoins for each of his seven children.
Kennedy Buys Bitcoin for His Children
Kennedy stated that his decision came after receiving extensive criticism from crypto industry experts and mainstream media following his pro-Bitcoin comments at the Bitcoin Miami Conference in May. He mentioned that he was criticized for advocating Bitcoin despite not personally owning any Bitcoin.
“After the Bitcoin conference, I reflected on my thoughts and decided to take action. That’s why I bought two Bitcoins for each of my seven children.”
Kennedy has six biological children, four boys and two girls, ranging in age from 22 to 38. His seventh child is most likely from his latest marriage to actress Cheryl Hines, whom he married in 2014.
Accepting Bitcoin Donations for the Campaign
During his speech at the conference, Kennedy also announced that he will start accepting campaign donations in Bitcoin. The presidential candidate denied having any personal investments in cryptocurrency.
Kennedy’s acknowledgement of owning cryptocurrency coincided with a leaked financial statement in late June, revealing that he held Bitcoin worth between $100,001 and $250,000.
However, if RFK Jr. had purchased a total of 14 Bitcoins for approximately $26,800 in the days following the conference, his total holdings would have exceeded $380,000 by the end of June.
Amidst all these contradictions, Democratic presidential candidate Kennedy reaffirmed his plan to support the US dollar with Bitcoin and to exempt capital gains tax if elected as president.
