In the Ethereum network, due to the high cost of transaction fees and the congestion experienced on the network, Layer-2 networks emerged as a proposed solution. However, these waters are far from calm. According to an alert on the official status website of the popular Ethereum Layer-2 network Arbitrum One, there was a partial outage on December 15. So why did the outage occur? Let’s examine this together.
How Did The Process Begin?
According to the warning issued on the subject, the sequencer network traffic came to a halt during a significant increase in activity. Data taken by the Arbitrum ecosystem’s explorer, Arbiscan, shows that some blocks were produced. However, it appears that only two transactions were being processed per block during this period.
Many Arbitrum users have entered into discussions about whether the outage was caused by minting transactions. This possibility would explain the small number of transactions seen in each block. However, this possibility has not been confirmed by the team.
Inscriptions are known as a type of data format preferred in some blockchain networks and often attract attention as a cultural product emerging through images. Inscription tokens appeared in the Bitcoin ecosystem in January, but recently began to be featured on the Arbitrum network through the MemeOrdi protocol.
An Official Statement on The Issue
On Arbitrum’s official Discord server, community manager Ricardo Gordon announced that the team is working to resolve this issue as soon as possible and will soon provide a post-mortem.
The Arbitrum network, especially after the airdrop event, made a significant impact in the Web3 sector. The crash of the website opened for the airdrop due to heavy traffic and the fact that users were unable to complete their airdrop claim transactions for a long time were the subject of extensive debate. Subsequent inaction by the Arbitrum team regarding the network caused the ARB token price to remain stable and led to investors targeting the team for criticism.
Following the airdrop event, ecosystem activities continued to decline. In particular, users who engaged in airdrop farming are now being seen in different ecosystems, which could mean that Arbitrum might be longing for its old days.
