Gnosis Chain developers have successfully implemented a key update in the platform’s development, known as Dencun, which activates type 3 blob transactions on a sidechain to improve the scalability of decentralized applications (dApps) built on the network.
Blob Transactions Now Available
One of the pioneering dApps to benefit from these new features is Blob.Fm, a content-based platform serving as the first demonstration of blob usage on the Gnosis Chain network. This development demonstrates the platform’s commitment to driving innovation and solving scalability issues within the decentralized ecosystem.
Formerly known as xDai Chain, Gnosis Chain operates as a sidechain alongside Ethereum under the management of GnosisDAO. With a total value exceeding $320 million, the network hosts various dApps such as Balancer, Spark, Aave, and Aura, highlighting its growing importance in the broader Blockchain world.
Stefan George, co-founder of Gnosis Chain, expressed his excitement about the activation of the Dencun update, stating, “Now you can use blobs to scale Gnosis or publish funny images using blob.fm.” This statement underscores the practical applications of the enhanced functionality and paves the way for further innovation in the ecosystem.
Eyes on Ethereum’s Dencun Update
Blob transactions, also known as EIP-4844 or protodanksharding, will be available on the Ethereum mainnet with the Dencun update, planned to be activated at epoch 269568 on March 13 at 16:55 local time. The anticipated update represents a significant step in the evolution of the Ethereum network, offering enhanced scalability and efficiency to both users and developers.
Blobs are set to become an integral feature on the Gnosis Chain network by providing increased data availability without disrupting the current Ethereum infrastructure. This improvement is expected to pave the way for cheaper transactions on Layer 2 networks and ultimately make dApps more cost-effective and accessible for users on Layer 2.
