An important decision has been announced in the Thodex cryptocurrency exchange case, closely followed by Turkey. The verdict regarding the founder Faruk Fatih Özer has been revealed.
Verdict in the Thodex Case
A ruling has been made about the detained defendant Faruk Fatih Özer in the trial held at Istanbul Anatolian 17th Criminal Court of First Instance. Fatih Özer participated in the trial through the Audio and Video Informatics System (SEGBIS) from prison, and his defense attorney was also present.
Özer, who requested acquittal and was tried for smuggling, also asked for the deferment of the pronouncement of the verdict even if a sentence was given. As expected, a result came out, and Özer was sentenced to 7 months and 15 days of imprisonment with the application of mitigating factors. The pronouncement of the verdict was deferred.
In this context, Özer may have escaped the charges of major fraud without serving any prison time by paying only the criminal fine. Özer’s account activities from 2017 were also examined, and despite the notification, he had not submitted the necessary documents from that period. It is known that Özer is being tried for smuggling under the tax procedure law, and the punishment for this crime may range from 18 months to 5 years of imprisonment.
