Layer-2 blockchain network Manta Network, supported by zero-knowledge proofs, announced that it experienced a widespread distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack in the midst of a successful token listing on multiple exchanges. Due to the attack, the network’s block production stopped, and many users who were eligible for the airdrop event were unable to claim their tokens. It has not yet been announced what measures will be taken in response to the issue.
Immediate Response to the Incident
According to Kenny Li, the co-founder of P0xeidon Labs, the cryptographic development team behind Manta Network, the blockchain blocks were subjected to over 135 million remote procedure call (RPC) requests on January 18th.
Describing it as a very aggressive and timed attack, Li stated that the blockchain network is operating securely and that funds are safe. However, Li warned that communication between applications and the blockchain network is currently severely limited. The co-founder also shared the following statement:
“Rest assured, we are not going anywhere. We have been building for three years and do not see an end in sight. We are very grateful for your support as a community.”
