Blue-chip NFT collection CryptoPunks, saw another record-breaking sale in March when a rare alien piece was sold in the Ethereum ecosystem for about 16 million dollars. On March 20th, CryptoPunk #7804 was purchased for approximately 16.4 million dollars worth of 4,850 Ethereum during the sale. The NFT sale demanded the second-highest price to date for a CryptoPunk and followed another high-profile NFT sale that took place earlier in March.
A $16 Million NFT Sale Takes Place
On March 4th, CryptoPunk #3100 was sold for about 16 million dollars worth of 4,500 Ethereum, becoming the third-largest CryptoPunk sale after the recent #7804 punk sale. CryptoPunk #7804 is one of the 10,000 NFTs in the collection. However, its value stems from the rarity of its features.
The NFT character is lifting its hat forward, a trait found only in 254 CryptoPunks. It also has a pipe, present in only 317 NFTs, and small shades shared by only 378 CryptoPunks. However, what really makes this crypto asset rarer is that it is one of only nine alien CryptoPunks.
The seller of the NFT, Peruggia, chose to express their thoughts about the sale using X. The CryptoPunk seller described the transaction as the end of an era and admitted feeling like a fraud for holding back the NFTs by not elevating the piece to its deserved place.
Peruggia purchased CryptoPunk #7804 in March 2021 for 7.5 million dollars worth of 4,200 Ethereum. Despite being offered approximately 18 million dollars in 2022, the NFT investor held onto the piece for more than three years. This transaction also held the record for the second-largest CryptoPunk sale before the two 16 million dollar sales that took place this month.
