An important play-to-earn project based on the Solana ecosystem, Stepn, entered a new phase of socialization with a new app and token nearly three years after its launch. The game and development studio behind Stepn, FSL, announced the launch of Stepn Go, a new social lifestyle app that rewards daily movement and social interactions, on May 23.
Stepn Go and the Process
With Stepn Go, users can now share their digital sneakers with friends and family new to the app and share their earnings. The app also enables basic social features like adding friends, messaging, avatars, and more game options, allowing players to earn GMT rewards.
To enable the new experience, the new Stepn Go game introduces a new token called Go Gaming Token (GGT). Similar to Stepn’s Green Satoshi Token (GST), the new GGT token can be earned by walking, jogging, and running with digital sneakers.
The original Stepn app was launched in 2021 and became one of the world’s largest play-to-earn projects and a pioneer of gamified Web3 fitness applications. The game operates a dual token system where GST is the utility token with unlimited supply, and the other token, Green Metaverse Token (GMT), serves as Stepn’s governance token.
What’s Happening on the Stepn Front?
According to FSL co-founder Yawn Rong, the Stepn community has been requesting social features within the app since its early days. Rong shared the following statement on the matter:
“Therefore, we are very excited to unveil these new features that will enable mainstream adoption of Stepn Go. In addition to the Haus Mechanism and Interactive Map, we will also implement player-to-player elements within the app.”
After experiencing a significant decline in 2022 and 2023, the GameFi sector saw a kind of revival amidst rising crypto prices. The number of daily active wallets in GameFi doubled over the past year.
StepN has also become more active recently and partnered with Adidas in April for 1,000 Genesis Edition NFTs on Solana. Previously, StepN announced an airdrop event of 100 million FSL points worth approximately $30 million to reward its core players.
