During a speech, Daniel Tsai, the Chairman of Fubon Group and Taiwan’s richest man, addressed the topic of cryptocurrencies, claiming that the crypto era is inevitable.
“The Crypto Era Will Come One Day”
Daniel Tsai, the Chairman of Fubon Group and Taiwan’s richest man, stated during his speech at National Taiwan University that the green economy will include not only traditional investments and finance, but also cryptocurrencies. Tsai emphasized the increasing importance of blockchain technology in traditional investments and finance, stating, “I firmly believe that the crypto era will come one day.”
Furthermore, Tsai pointed out that the green economy not only encompasses traditional investments and finance, but also the possibility of financial commodities derived from carbon rights, with transactions increasingly being conducted through blockchain-based systems rather than traditional currencies. He also highlighted the growing importance of artificial intelligence and its impact on energy consumption, stating that it will play a significant role in increased energy consumption and the utilization of renewable and green energy sources.
Taiwan, Tsai’s home country, officially regulated cryptocurrencies this year with a proposed bill that lays the groundwork for how cryptocurrency exchanges should operate in the country.
The Rising Energy Issue of Artificial Intelligence
Since its emergence, artificial intelligence has had a significant impact and found its place in various sectors worldwide. The rise of artificial intelligence has brought forth two important questions: how much energy does it consume, and how much does it save? The use of artificial intelligence allows for significant time and labor savings, but the main curiosity lies in its energy consumption.
An analysis by Alex de Vries, the founder of Digiconomist, reveals that when an artificial intelligence generates data based on commands, it consumes a substantial amount of computing power and energy. For example, ChatGPT can consume 564 MWh of electricity daily.
