Cryptocurrency hardware wallet provider Trezor has taken action after receiving reports from users. The Trezor team has recently initiated an investigation for users who reported receiving phishing emails. Blockchain detective ZachXBT warned his followers via Telegram channel on October 26th regarding this process.
Notable Allegations for Trezor
Blockchain detective ZachXBT responded to a tweet suggesting that Trezor might have been compromised after receiving phishing emails from the email account used for purchasing wallets.
Similar to previous phishing attacks related to Trezor, the phishing email invites users to download the latest firmware update for their Trezor devices to fix a software issue. ZachXBT commented on the matter:
“Be careful, this person just received a phishing email to the email address associated with the Trezor purchase.”
Furthermore, ZachXBT drew attention to a potential data breach for the United Kingdom delivery company Evri, which distributes Trezor or Trezor products to users. The detective shared on Reddit today that two more individuals had been targeted using the same method and filed complaints.
Statements from Company Representative
Trezor brand ambassador Josef Tetek stated that the company is aware of the ongoing phishing attacks and that the team is investigating the issue. Tetek mentioned numerous articles aimed at helping the company deal with phishing attacks, stating:
“We constantly report fake websites, contact domain registration companies, and educate and warn our customers about known risks.”
One of the articles published by the company explains that phishing emails usually direct users to download a similar application to Trezor Suite, which asks users to connect their wallets and enter their seed phrases. Tetek emphasized that Trezor will never ask users for this information and said:
“Users should never enter their recovery seeds directly into any website or mobile application, or type them into a computer. The only secure way to work with a recovery seed is to follow the instructions shown on a connected Trezor hardware wallet.”
