Latest Blog Post Draws Attention
Vitalik Buterin continues to lead many through his writings on his blog. In his post shared on January 31, he reflected on the most striking memories of the past two years, including speaking at hackathons, interacting with people at events, and being energized by seeing people a decade younger than him taking on all sorts of roles.
Buterin, who received praise at these events for being one of the young geniuses transforming the world like Zuckerberg, stated that it’s now time for younger people to take on the role he once embraced to change the world.
Sharing notable revelations about his life, Buterin explained how his interest in mathematics during his high school years later helped him in the field of cryptography. The famous figure, who did a lot of coding in the Ethereum and Bitcoin ecosystems, mentioned that he still uses mathematics to analyze social mechanisms.
Striking Statements from Buterin
In the continuation of his blog post, Buterin talked about two significant events that marked his life in the last two years: the war between Russia and Ukraine, and the bankruptcy process of FTX. Sharing important details about the war, Buterin said he watched the events with concern on February 23, 2022, and shared fears with his father during this time. After confirming the legitimacy of Ukraine’s Ethereum-based donation campaign, he did what he could and expressed that he could no longer visit Russia due to security reasons.
Eight months after the start of the war, Buterin commented on the FTX bankruptcy that deeply shook the crypto world, likening SBF’s situation to MtGox and stating that after previous market-shaking events, the industry’s leading figures have now been wiped out, and there are no longer guiding people in the crypto field.
Buterin also touched on his decision to drop out of university, mentioning his work during the Bitcoin Magazine years and how he decided to leave university after seeing hundreds of people cheering at a presentation introducing Ethereum at BTC Miami in January 2014. Reflecting on his meeting with Putin in 2017, Buterin criticized himself for being complicit in legitimizing a dictator about five years after the event and wrote that he realized he now had an important mission in the crypto field.
In the final sections of his blog post, Buterin discussed various aspects of the crypto field, from the DAO process to mining, noting that people are now working in the crypto space for financial freedom and especially that the 2008 crisis created Bitcoin. Buterin stated that 2023 was a year when he watched many things disappear and the world was changing rapidly, and that creating something new in this process is a duty for everyone.
