US-based retail giant Walmart is gearing up to offer its customers a different experience. Walmart aims to provide customers with a unique experience by selling the physical versions of the items they use in the House Flip metaverse world. Additionally, Walmart has collaborated with the Scoop clothing brand in the fashion sector on the metaverse and will soon introduce the service to users.
Noteworthy Steps by Walmart
Walmart plans to add new decor products from Mainstays and Better Homes and Gardens companies to the House Flip metaverse world, allowing customers to browse and purchase products in the virtual environment. Thomas Kang, the General Manager of Metaverse Commerce at Walmart, stated in an interview with VentureBeat that customers will be able to make payments for both physical and virtual products using only their Walmart accounts on the metaverse, without the need to visit a physical store. Kang, who is an executive in the field of innovation at Walmart, continued as follows:
“We have the opportunity to reshape and rediscover our offerings in a way that will benefit our customers in the retail industry.”
Earlier this year, Walmart signed an agreement that laid the foundations for this development. According to the agreement, Walmart collaborated with FUN-GI, a game developer for the mobile metaverse environment House Flip, which allows customers and players to create virtual homes on their iOS and Android devices and sell them.
Walmart’s Other Metaverse Collaborations
Walmart has made collaborations on the metaverse not only in the decoration sector but also in the fashion sector. Walmart entered into a partnership with the Scoop clothing brand on Zepeto, Asia’s largest metaverse platform, to equip avatars with the brand’s products. Kang added that Walmart will test more experiences in metaverse ecosystems next year:
“We want to help companies and brands sell their products in the metaverse. We see unlimited potential in this emerging technology and are excited to explore its possibilities.”
The executive also announced that customers will receive a virtual product for products sold in Walmart stores in the future:
“We can use our physical locations as places to interact with customers. For example, if you purchase a physical product, we can give you a virtual product for free.”
