Raydium is an automated market maker (AMM) and liquidity provider built on the Solana blockchain for the Serum decentralized exchange (DEX).
What is Raydium (RAY)?
Unlike other AMMs, Raydium provides liquidity to a centralized limit order book on the blockchain, meaning funds deposited into Raydium are converted into limit orders on Serum’s order books. This allows Raydium LPs access to their existing liquidity as well as the entire order flow on Serum.
Additionally, RAY is the native utility token used for:
- Staking to earn protocol fees
- Staking for IDO allocations
- Voting on governance protocol decisions
Moreover, AlphaRay leads the general strategy, operations, product management, and business development for Raydium. Alpha, with a background in algorithmic trading in commodities, transitioned to market making and liquidity provision for cryptocurrency in 2017.
On the other hand, Raydium provides ecosystem-wide liquidity for users and projects, offering:
- OrderBook AMM: Raydium’s AMM interacts with Serum’s centralized limit order book, meaning pools have access to all order flow and liquidity on Serum and vice versa.
- Best Price Swaps: Raydium determines whether a swap will provide the best price for the user within a liquidity pool or through the Serum order book, and executes accordingly.
- High Liquidity Launches: AcceleRaytor offers projects a simple three-step process to raise funds, launch an IDO, and kickstart liquidity on Raydium and Serum.
Furthermore, Raydium farms allow liquidity providers to generate RAY tokens as farming rewards, in addition to transaction fees contributed to the pool.
In addition, it is stated that Raydium’s goal has always been to make the code open-source, but security audits are still being conducted to ensure there are zero issues before doing so.
