Solana Mobile, following the increased demand for its crypto wallet-supported smartphone model Saga, has made a significant decision. Accordingly, the team is preparing to present a second phone model to users’ appreciation. After the surge in demand at the end of 2023, the team has taken such a decision, which will be a notable step towards market dominance.
New Model to Follow After Saga
According to claims made to an undisclosed Solana official, the new phone model will retain many features similar to Saga, including a crypto wallet, dapp store, and specialized Android software. However, it is alleged that different hardware will be used in technical aspects and that the model will have a cheaper price tag than Saga.
Saga was initially offered to users with a price tag of $1,000, but after struggling to attract interest, its price was reduced to $599. This situation changed suddenly in December when the price of BONK, a Solana-based memecoin, gained significant momentum, offering users a substantial arbitrage opportunity as the device came with 30 million tokens. The company’s limited stock of 20,000 phones quickly sold out in the US and EU, and after inventory issues, the company canceled some orders and refunded customers.
BONK Airdrop Event
BONK‘s price saw an increase of over 800% last month, rising from $0.0000038 to $0.0000350 on December 15th, the day the phone stocks ran out. However, according to data from Tradingview, BONK’s price has since experienced a significant drop, falling by 60% to $0.0000140.
At BONK’s peak levels, the 30 million BONK tokens that came with Saga, which were only worth a few dollars when the device was first released, were worth $1,140, which is 90% more than the device’s $599 price tag. However, with the drop in BONK’s price, the airdrop event is now worth $420, below the phone’s price.
Despite the drop, it did not go unnoticed that at least two Saga phones were sold on eBay for up to $5,000, and second-hand phone sales are still receiving high offers of up to $3,200, as the excitement for potential future airdrop events continues for phone owners.
