A new statement regarding the case was made today in Germany. The Bavarian State Data Protection Supervisory Authority called for the deletion of the data in its announcement.
“The company will be required to provide a deletion procedure in accordance with GDPR regulations within one month of the decision coming into effect.”
This announcement is based on an investigation initiated last April by the Bavarian State Data Protection Supervisory Authority, which oversees the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation.

The team, facing issues in many regions worldwide, has taken various steps to address these challenges. The World team stated that they would take steps to alleviate regulatory concerns, including transitioning to a system that no longer stores biometric data within a few months. In today’s announcement, the World team wrote;
“The results of the BayLDA investigation largely concern outdated operations and technologies changed significantly in 2024. In an effort to exceed GDPR requirements, the iris codes used to verify a person’s World ID are no longer retained, and previously collected iris codes have been voluntarily deleted to ensure that no personal data is kept to operate the World ID.”
The price of WLD Coin has not been affected by the recent developments. If the changes in operational logic convince regulators, issues in countries like Spain and Portugal may be resolved, possibly preventing further investigations from other nations.
