Bitcoin
$76,467 advocate Pierre Rochard has articulated that cryptocurrencies like Ethereum (ETH)
$2,266 and XRP will never surpass Bitcoin in market value. According to Rochard, the elements defining Bitcoin’s value are fundamentally different and more robust than the usage-based approaches upon which altcoins rely.
Contrasting Bitcoin’s Value Proposition with Altcoins
In evaluations shared via his social media account, Rochard emphasized that cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum and XRP derive value primarily from their utility functions. He cited XRP’s popularity in cross-border payments as an instance that might enhance interest in such altcoins. However, he stressed that Bitcoin’s value is not driven by daily usage volumes; rather, it is determined by decentralization, resistance to censorship, limited supply, and network effects. Rochard further noted that major companies developing their own blockchains could eventually overshadow the utility spaces offered by altcoins.
Rochard firmly stated that Bitcoin’s core value proposition would be preserved in the long run, while altcoins would remain confined to a utility-based approach. Due to these factors, he deemed it unlikely that any altcoin would ever surpass Bitcoin in market capitalization.
The Reality Behind Claims of XRP Surpassing Bitcoin
Occasionally, there are claims within the cryptocurrency community suggesting that XRP has previously overtaken Bitcoin in terms of market value. A purportedly 2018 CoinMarketCap screenshot is often presented to support this assertion. However, this particular visual evidence does not reflect reality. The image accounts for XRP’s fully diluted market capitalization calculation, including tens of billions of non-circulating coins. This method of calculation is misleading as it does not accurately represent real market value.

In light of this data, it is revealed that XRP has never surpassed Bitcoin at any point. Claims supported by deceptive data fail to reflect the actual market dynamics. According to the real market value criterion, which considers circulating supply, Bitcoin maintains its superiority.
