China, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates conducted their first-ever joint police operation in Dubai, marking a major advance against international cryptocurrency scams. The coordinated effort specifically targeted “romance scams” operating via social media under the guise of emotional relationships to lure victims into fraudulent crypto investments.

Tri-nation operation unfolds

Acting on shared intelligence and technical capabilities, law enforcement teams simultaneously raided nine locations as part of the operation, detaining a total of 276 suspects. The Chinese Ministry of Public Security detailed the scope and results, emphasizing the cross-border collaboration driving this large-scale intervention.

According to the Ministry, the rapid spread of crypto-related “romance traps” in recent years has left many victims worldwide, making cross-border police partnerships crucial. Fraudsters typically forge close connections over social media, convincing targets to invest in high-return cryptocurrency projects — a scheme seen from China to the US and beyond, often ending in severe financial loss.

A Ministry official explained that their police force intends to expand practical cooperation with other countries on similar crimes and to continue joint operations to dismantle such criminal networks at their roots.

Following the operation, representatives from China, the US, and the UAE underscored their commitment to ongoing collaboration. They indicated that the partnership extends beyond this mission and that mechanisms for tracking similar international criminal organizations will soon be established.

Nine criminal groups dismantled in Dubai

Police neutralized nine separate scam centers during the raids. Authorities described it as the largest coordinated crackdown yet on a romantic relationship-based cryptocurrency fraud structure, with both masterminds and social media manipulators identified among the suspects.

In these romance scams, perpetrators typically build trust over lengthy conversations, then guide individuals towards supposedly “safe and high-profit” crypto investments. Industry experts believe this approach has led many to lose substantial savings.

The Xinhua News Agency identified the operation as a major milestone in dismantling criminal syndicates operating out of Dubai.

An announcement from Xinhua stated that police from China, the US, and the UAE together shut down nine scam bases and apprehended 276 suspects.

Global collaboration tackles cross-border threats

Officials highlight that romance-themed cryptocurrency scams are growing in complexity, with organized criminal rings in various countries exploiting victims’ emotions to persuade them into costly crypto investments.

After the operation, China’s Ministry of Public Security reaffirmed its intention to continue joint international actions to dismantle all such criminal webs. The agency stressed that supporting victims and preventing new scams remain central priorities.

Experts say these kinds of multi-country operations could set a new standard in the international fight against crypto market fraud. The Dubai crackdown makes clear that international cooperation is key to targeting romance scams driven by fake relationships.
