David Schwartz, CTO emeritus at Ripple, delivered a poetic comeback on X after a dismissive comment about his current role, using crypto-themed verse to highlight his technical background and contributions to XRP Ledger.
Schwartz’s poetic response on X
In his post, Schwartz described himself as “the creator of a very resilient ledger” and shared his deep experience in payment networks, custody solutions, stablecoins, liquidity systems, and decentralized exchanges. Presented as a poem, his message was less a defense and more an ironic showcase of his technical expertise.
“I possess deep knowledge of payment systems and custody solutions; I understand stablecoins and their liquidity structures. I can talk endlessly about decentralized exchanges, explaining AMM structures even to children, friends, and family.”
The post went on to touch on derivatives, tokenization, bridge security, and why certain projects have failed, demonstrating Schwartz’s longstanding focus on the complex intricacies of crypto assets. The message quickly gained traction among the XRP community.
Glossary: AMM (Automated Market Maker) refers to a system that facilitates trading via liquidity pools instead of traditional order books. Tokenization means representing real or digital assets on a blockchain.
Pioneering the XRP Ledger
Schwartz stands among the original architects of the XRP Ledger. Beginning in 2011 with Jed McCaleb and Arthur Britto, the team sought to improve on Bitcoin by developing a digital asset platform focused on payments and sustainability, aiming to overcome various limitations of the original cryptocurrency.
The XRP Ledger went live in June 2012 and soon added Chris Larsen to the team. By September 2012, the group established a company initially called NewCoin, which was later renamed OpenCoin and ultimately became known as Ripple.
Referring to his more than 15 years of industry experience, Schwartz stated, “For decades, I have eagerly explained the finer details of crypto.”
Schwartz’s evolving role at Ripple
Based in the United States, Ripple is recognized for its international payment solutions and digital asset-driven financial technology. Since the company’s founding, Schwartz has played a pivotal part in the evolution of XRP Ledger, remaining a key figure within the organization.
He originally joined Ripple (then OpenCoin) as chief cryptographer. In 2018, he was named chief technology officer. By late 2025, Schwartz transitioned to the position of CTO emeritus, prompting renewed discussion across social media about his responsibilities.
Far beyond a personal reply, Schwartz’s poem was widely seen as a public reaffirmation of his technical prowess in the XRP Ledger and the broader blockchain industry.
