Ripple, a global blockchain-based fintech company, has announced new strategic investments designed to boost access to tokenized financial assets on its blockchain platform, the XRP Ledger (XRPL).
Ripple targets growth via new investments
Ripple detailed on Monday that it has made investments in two UK-based firms: Zilo, which develops global transfer agency asset solutions for wealth managers, and Licuido, a tokenization solutions provider regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority. These partnerships are expected to enhance Ripple’s initiatives around regulated transfer agency services and increase collateral mobility on the XRPL.
Financial specifics of these investments were not disclosed. Available data from Traxcn shows that Zilo has previously raised $58.7 million in equity funding. Licuido, though less publicized, has established itself within the UK financial sector as a regulated entity.
Ripple aims to use these investments to address inefficiencies linked to idle collateral by enabling tokenized funds to function as collateral immediately upon issuance.
Mini dictionary: Transfer agency, a type of financial service that manages the issuance and transfer of securities such as shares or funds on behalf of issuers, playing a key role in the administration and record-keeping for investment products.
“Combining these investments allows tokenized funds to serve as collateral from the point of issuance, addressing significant challenges with idle collateral,” Ripple stated in the announcement.
This move follows the recent launch by Aviva Investors—a London-based asset manager—of a tokenized share class for its US Dollar Liquidity Fund on the XRPL, after receiving approval from the Central Bank of Ireland.
XRP Ledger’s expanding footprint
Last month, Ripple introduced Ripple Mint, a new institutional platform that enables organizations to access, mint, redeem, and manage its US dollar-pegged stablecoin, Ripple USD (RLUSD).
The XRPL currently ranks as the 11th largest blockchain network in terms of tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), with $368 million in such assets. In comparison, Ethereum leads the market, hosting $17.1 billion in tokenized RWAs, according to data from RWA.xyz.
| Blockchain Network | Tokenized RWA Value | Rank |
|---|---|---|
| Ethereum | $17.1 billion | 1 |
| XRP Ledger | $368 million | 11 |
Over the past 30 days, the total number of RWA holders jumped 50% to 1.57 million. Meanwhile, the total value of tokenized assets rose by 1.5% to reach $37.3 billion.
XRPL infrastructure continues to evolve, with Ripple pushing new initiatives that bring together regulated agency services, enhanced collateral mobility, and tokenized asset issuance.
