The XRP Ledger Operations team has rolled out xrpld version 3.3.0, marking one of the most substantial upgrades for the blockchain network. This release introduces six new amendments currently undergoing the validator approval process. Developers and enterprises are being encouraged to prepare for integration, as these enhancements have been in development for several months.

Major upgrade targets institutional use

Among the key features in this upgrade is support for Batch Transactions, which allows up to eight transactions to be executed atomically. This means that either every transaction in the batch succeeds, or all fail—eliminating the risk of partial execution and opening up advanced use cases.

Batch Transactions is designed as an atomic process: all transactions within a group either succeed together or fail together, supporting more trustless settlements and complex trading workflows for institutional clients.

By enabling this function, the upgrade boosts the XRP Ledger’s appeal for financial institutions and enterprise users working with tokenized assets or involved in over-the-counter settlements and DeFi strategies.

FeatureDescription
Batch TransactionsUp to 8 atomic transactions
Permission DelegationAllows specific wallets to perform limited actions
SponsorThird parties can cover fees and reserves
Dynamic MPTEnables alteration of token properties after issuance
fixCleanupProtocol and bug fixes for improved reliability

The addition of Permission Delegation gives organizations the ability to assign specific wallet permissions for conducting restricted transactions. Treasury assets can now be better protected in cold storage, reducing exposure from day-to-day operations.

The Sponsor amendment further streamlines onboarding: third parties are now able to pay transaction fees and fulfill reserve requirements for other users, lowering entry barriers for enterprises and retail participants alike.

Performance and security advancements

The new Dynamic MPT feature empowers issuers to revise properties of previously issued tokens, supporting greater asset flexibility. Meanwhile, the fixCleanup amendment focuses on protocol enhancements and bug fixes aimed at improving network stability.

Developers have reported notable performance gains with xrpld 3.3.0: memory usage has decreased by 10 to 15%, with some workloads seeing even larger reductions, and node synchronization speeds have increased. These improvements help lower infrastructure expenses for network validators and contribute to the ledger’s scalability over time.

Security was a core focus for the upgrade. Web3 security firm Sherlock audited the changes, conducting adversarial testing prior to launch. Auditors identified 2 critical, 6 high, 29 medium, and 59 low-severity vulnerabilities, all of which were addressed and resolved ahead of deployment. In recognition of the responsible disclosures, 309,000 RLUSD was distributed through a bug bounty program.

Path forward for activation

Despite early access to these functions, the six amendments must still receive validator approval before they are fully enabled on the XRP Ledger. If accepted, these features are expected to reinforce the platform’s position in institutional finance, tokenized real-world assets, and decentralized application development.

Validators now have the opportunity to vote on the adoption of amendments that could further strengthen XRP Ledger’s standing in the global blockchain ecosystem.
