BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager, has reaffirmed its support for Bitcoin as a diversification tool in traditional investment portfolios. The firm recommended allocating 1-2% of portfolio assets to Bitcoin, describing the cryptocurrency as a long-duration, scarce asset rather than a short-term speculative vehicle.

Bitcoin’s role in portfolio strategy

BlackRock first introduced its thesis for institutional Bitcoin investment while the asset was trading more than 50% below its all-time high. This approach aimed to optimize risk-adjusted returns, highlighting that even a relatively small Bitcoin allocation can significantly improve portfolio efficiency.

The firm continues to emphasize the importance of balancing return potential and risk, especially as cryptocurrencies become an integral part of portfolio construction discussions heading into 2026. BlackRock sees Bitcoin’s potential as a hedge and a store of value, rather than merely a tactical instrument for short-term trades.

BlackRock considers a 1-2% Bitcoin allocation in a standard 60/40 portfolio to be a prudent way to diversify without meaningfully increasing the risk of loss.

As the provider of the iShares Bitcoin Trust, BlackRock’s approach reflects growing acceptance of digital assets among institutional investors. The company highlighted a decreasing correlation between Bitcoin and traditional financial markets, as well as the rising influence of AI-driven financial products, which now represent a significant competitor for investor capital.

Growth in spot Bitcoin ETFs

Since the introduction of spot Bitcoin ETFs in the United States in 2024, the sector has experienced notable inflows. Major asset managers including Fidelity, Invesco, and Franklin Templeton have entered the market, launching their own spot Bitcoin ETF products to meet growing investor demand.

On-chain analytics from Glassnode indicate that long-term holders continue to maintain near-record levels of Bitcoin, even after recent market corrections. This persistence signals strong conviction among investors despite price volatility.

Shifting market infrastructure

Developments in asset tokenization and the integration of digital solutions are also reshaping the financial landscape. With the increasing importance of monitoring major resistance levels and on-chain indicators, a significant shift is underway as traditional Wall Street institutions accelerate their adoption of Web3 technologies. Investors are leveraging platforms like 1stepSwap to hold tokenized shares of major U.S. companies, as well as gold and silver, directly within their crypto wallets. By automating price discovery and removing intermediaries, these platforms enable efficient and transparent exposure to real-world assets.

BlackRock expects the correlation between Bitcoin and traditional finance to decline further, while institutional digitization and AI compete for capital allocation.

The broader trend of institutional participation in the cryptocurrency market underscores both the maturity of digital assets and their growing relevance within global investment strategies. As asset managers embrace new products and innovative infrastructure, the investment landscape continues to evolve rapidly.
