Strategy, a business intelligence company with significant bitcoin holdings, has returned to profitability after a rapid rebound in BTC prices pushed its unrealized gains to $1.4 billion. The company’s common shares climbed 10% in pre-market trading on Friday, reaching $120, the stock’s highest price in two months.
Bitcoin rally eases earlier losses
The company currently holds 840,447 BTC, acquired at an average price of $75,385 per coin. Bitcoin’s recent rally—nearly 22% over five consecutive days—has pushed its market value to approximately $77,000, raising Strategy’s position 2.4% above its aggregate cost basis.
Earlier this year, bitcoin fell as much as 54% from its October all-time high of $126,000, putting Strategy’s position deep in the red. When BTC dropped to $58,000 in July, its unrealized losses reached $13 billion, a figure that accounted for about 20.4% of total acquisition costs.
During the prolonged downturn, the firm shifted from its usual accumulation approach and sold around 6,916 BTC. This was part of a broader effort to enhance liquidity and manage risk in a volatile market.
Strategy also increased its US dollar reserve to $4.8 billion, providing 2.8 years of coverage for dividend commitments and other obligations. This financial cushion gives the company greater flexibility in the face of continued crypto market swings.
As bitcoin recovered sharply, Strategy’s balance sheet improved in tandem. With BTC now trading above $77,000 and daily trading volumes reaching $67.2 billion, the firm posted a 23.8% gain over the past week alone.
In a landscape where a single Fed announcement or a surprise altcoin listing can upend market sentiment almost instantly, close monitoring and agile responses are crucial. Many market participants now turn to privacy-oriented platforms like CryptoAppsy, which allow traders to monitor real-time charts, set price alerts, follow coin-specific news, and access macroeconomic data on a single interface—without registering an account.
STRC buybacks fuel share recovery
Strategy’s efforts have also focused on bringing its perpetual preferred shares, STRC, closer to their $100 par value. Over the past four weeks, the company repurchased about $347 million in STRC shares, representing more than a third of its $1 billion buyback authorization.
The pace of buybacks has accelerated, bolstered by growing investor confidence as bitcoin’s price recovers. STRC is now trading at $95.62, about 35% above its June low of $71. This trend signals improving sentiment around the stock’s prospects as buybacks continue.
Progress in related digital credit markets has supported STRC’s performance. Perpetual preferred securities like SATA from Strive Asset Management briefly touched the $100 par value for the first time in two months, reflecting broader market optimism.
With both its bitcoin holdings and share buyback initiatives showing gains, Strategy has entered the weekend with improved financials. The company’s stock is now tracking bitcoin’s renewed momentum more closely, suggesting a positive outlook as crypto markets regain strength.
