Finance educator Coach JV has highlighted new developments involving XRP and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), focusing on the institution’s recent use of the XRP Ledger (XRPL) for a blockchain proof of concept. The BIS, which serves as a central bank for central banks worldwide, referenced XRPL’s efficiency and low costs in a newly published report about verifying official statistics on-chain.

The BIS selects XRP Ledger for testing

Founded in 1930, the BIS is widely regarded as a pivotal institution in global financial governance. In its publication, the BIS cited XRPL’s “low fees, three to five second settlement, and proven track record” as key reasons for choosing the network to trial cryptographic fingerprinting of datasets on a blockchain.

XRPL recorded each data entry at a cost of approximately $0.000003 per transaction, completing verification processes within one to two seconds under test conditions. The BIS mentioned XRP or XRPL 101 times in its official document, underscoring the significance of the project for blockchain advocates.

Coach JV emphasized that, while the BIS has not opted for wide adoption of the XRP Ledger, its use as the proof of concept is a noteworthy development for the digital asset community.

XRPL’s low fees and rapid settlement times were pivotal features in the BIS’s selection, with no official adoption decision made, but its application for proof of concept signals growing interest in blockchain-based solutions.

Ripple CEO underscores slow pace of traditional finance

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse responded to the BIS development by highlighting the contrast between the growth of digital assets and the procedures of traditional finance. Garlinghouse referenced the Central Bank of the Netherlands’ recent $11 billion gold transfer, noting that 70% of the gold never physically moved. He also pointed to Germany’s protracted process of repatriating 674 tons of gold from Paris to New York, which took four years.

He juxtaposed these examples with the evolution of cryptocurrency, noting that over the span of just more than a decade, digital assets have moved from a $1.5 billion experiment to a $2.7 trillion market, while some central banks still rely on legacy practices.

Garlinghouse further commented that testing by the BIS involving the XRP Ledger, recognized for fast settlements and minimal costs, should not surprise industry observers given XRPL’s established reputation.

The rapid rise of crypto to a multi-trillion-dollar asset class stands in sharp contrast to lengthy legacy banking procedures that remain common in the 21st century.

Growing interest from institutions and community debate

Coach JV also pointed out other signals of momentum for XRP. The University of Florida Gators recently became an official XP partner in a new collaboration, highlighting ongoing adoption efforts. Elsewhere, media figure Alex Jones claimed on his program that many major banks, institutions, and governments have chosen XRP as a primary exchange method; Coach JV referenced these claims to illustrate broader user and institutional interest, not as formal endorsements.

Regulatory clarity was another topic of discussion. XRP remains one of the few assets with a settled legal status following Ripple’s victory in its court dispute with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Coach JV contended that once comprehensive regulation is established, more banks may be able to pursue partnerships in the crypto sector without legal uncertainty.

Coach JV, a financial educator and public speaker known for sharing insights on digital assets, told followers that these developments reflect heightened institutional attention to XRP, even if definitive adoption has yet to occur.
