Ripple is seeking to simplify the transition of banks and financial institutions to blockchain technology by integrating its services with SettleMint, a platform specializing in digital asset lifecycle management. The initiative aims to provide banks with a unified solution for custody, issuance, compliance, settlement, and servicing, addressing the challenge of managing multiple technology vendors.

Integrated banking infrastructure

Ripple’s partnership with SettleMint, launched earlier this month and already active in Asia, allows institutions to operate all key asset management functions within a single technology stack. This integration removes the need for banks to coordinate various providers for custody, compliance, issuance, and settlement, offering a more streamlined procurement model.

Under the collaboration, Ripple Custody delivers institutional-grade asset security and governance, while SettleMint’s Digital Asset Lifecycle Platform manages the full lifecycle of tokenized assets across issuance, transfer, and servicing.

Mini dictionary: SettleMint is a technology company providing a platform that helps organizations deploy blockchain-based applications, focusing on digital asset lifecycle management for financial institutions.

Boston Consulting Group estimates that the total value of digital real-world assets may reach $88 trillion by 2035, potentially accounting for 16% of global investable assets in an optimistic scenario. According to BCG, banks could see up to 15% of their revenue and 30% of profits at risk if value continues shifting toward digital-asset competitors.

As tokenization shifts toward mainstream banking, Ripple is focusing on delivering complete infrastructure covering custody, issuance, compliance, and settlement in anticipation of a massive $88 trillion opportunity.

Implications for institutions and XRP investors

Ripple’s strategy is to expand beyond offering a single cryptocurrency product by building out a full institutional infrastructure. The company has also developed capital markets capabilities, investing in platforms such as ZILO and Licuido to support transfer agency, collateral management, and issuance services.

Importantly, current details regarding SettleMint’s partnership confirm that participating banks are not required to use XRP, the XRP Ledger (XRPL), or RLUSD. No specific client, blockchain network, transaction figures, or tokenized assets have been publicly identified.

Ripple continues to differentiate between its broader institutional offerings and direct demand for XRP. While the partnership strengthens Ripple’s position in institutional finance by providing banks with options for custody, payments, stablecoin infrastructure, and tokenization, it does not guarantee an immediate increase in XRP usage.

Ripple’s integration with SettleMint expands its presence in banking while remaining separate from direct XRP adoption. The next major development will be if a named financial institution begins using the combined system in actual operations, including public disclosure of settlement assets and transaction volumes.

The focus now shifts to seeing a leading financial institution publicly implement the entire Ripple-SettleMint stack and share details on the underlying blockchain and asset flows.
