Metaplanet Asset Management Asia set for September 2026 launch

The planned subsidiary, Metaplanet Asset Management Asia Limited, is set for official incorporation in September 2026. The company intends for the unit to invest in Bitcoin, stocks, preferred securities, credit products, and other liquid assets, utilizing a combination of client funds and Metaplanet’s own capital.

The first directors of the subsidiary will be Simon Gerovich, Darren Winia, and Kelvin Lee. Metaplanet, founded in Tokyo and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, has recently increased its profile through significant Bitcoin holdings and expansion into global markets.

Metaplanet said the new Hong Kong office will offer crucial trading, asset management, and risk oversight during Asian trading hours, particularly when US markets are closed. Miami will remain the company’s hub for institutional investing, while Hong Kong will serve as its primary outpost in the Asia-Pacific region.

The company indicated that the subsidiary would operate alongside its Miami asset management branch, launched in March 2026. While the Miami unit drives central strategy, the Hong Kong office will ensure coverage for Asian market hours and operational support.

Project Nova and Asian expansion plans

Metaplanet described the Hong Kong venture as part of Project Nova, its initiative to develop a broad suite of financial services built around its large Bitcoin treasury. Project Nova covers the development of credit products and investment vehicles tied to Bitcoin holdings.

According to public statements, the Hong Kong subsidiary will primarily facilitate asset purchases, monitor market conditions, and manage risk exposure during local trading sessions. No details were provided about when the new entity will begin managing external client assets, nor were any specific products or regulatory licenses mentioned in the latest disclosures.

Metaplanet outlined its intention for the Hong Kong unit to “support asset trading and risk management during Asian hours as part of Project Nova,” emphasizing its commitment to expanding Bitcoin-related investment capabilities in the region.

Metaplanet confirmed it would maintain 100% ownership of the Hong Kong subsidiary. The company also stated that the new office should have minimal impact on its 2026 financial results, with additional information to be provided if any changes occur.

Recent moves and growing Bitcoin assets

Metaplanet has remained active in mergers and capital markets in 2026. In June, the firm reached a deal to acquire Japanese brokerage Siiibo Securities for 2.1 billion yen, finalizing the purchase in July and rebranding the company as Metaplanet Securities. The brokerage retains its licensed trading registration within Japan.

The company has partnered with JPYC and Progmat in researching Bitcoin-backed credit products, though it has yet to launch any offerings or finalize terms with the partners.

A separate partnership announced in August involves Nasdaq-listed Super League Enterprise, which intends to rebrand as Superplanet and adopt the ticker SUPA. Metaplanet plans to contribute 2,100 BTC and $2.5 million to Superplanet, giving it a 95.7% equity stake ahead of future warrant exercises. The deal includes a five-year lockup period for Metaplanet’s shareholdings.

Metaplanet further solidified its position as a prominent Bitcoin holder, reporting a treasury of 43,000 BTC after acquiring 2,823 BTC in the second quarter. In August, 5,014 BTC transferred internally between Metaplanet’s custodial wallets, with company representatives affirming that the entire 43,000 BTC remains unsold.

Gerovich highlighted that the Superplanet investment marks Metaplanet’s planned entry into US capital markets, adding that the agreement provides a pathway for further cross-border expansion.
