Artificial intelligence may play a pivotal role in boosting mainstream Bitcoin adoption, according to Nakamoto Holdings CEO and Chairman David Bailey. During a recent discussion hosted by investment bank TD Cowen, Bailey suggested that AI-powered tools could significantly reduce the technical barriers preventing widespread use of the world’s largest cryptocurrency.

AI could simplify onboarding

Bailey argued that the primary challenge to onboarding new users has not been the nature of Bitcoin itself, but rather the complexity of its user interface. Typical concerns like managing wallets, addresses, and private keys have deterred many ordinary individuals and institutions from engaging with Bitcoin.

He stated that AI-powered interfaces have the potential to abstract away these complexities, helping users interact with Bitcoin in a simpler, more intuitive manner.

For over a decade, wallets, addresses, and onboarding have kept most people away. AI tools could remove these obstacles, making Bitcoin accessible for regular users and institutions.

TD Cowen analyst Lance Vitanza, who attended the conversation, described Bailey’s views as speculative yet noteworthy. Vitanza remarked that the discussion brings much-needed attention to areas outside of the usual narratives focused on monetary policy, regulation, and institutional flows.

Institutional and corporate participation grows

Bailey observed that significant institutional adoption has only recently begun. He mentioned that spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs), corporate treasury programs, and interest from sovereign entities have rapidly increased access to Bitcoin over the past year. According to Bailey, these recent developments have achieved more for adoption than the previous decade combined, with vast untapped potential still ahead.

Addressing the question of whether Bitcoin is influencing traditional finance or vice versa, Bailey said that the financial industry is adapting to Bitcoin, not the other way around. He emphasized that while institutions, governments, and public companies are now participating at scale, the core properties of Bitcoin remain unchanged and are not dictated by these large players.

Institutions and governments have joined the space in greater numbers, but Bitcoin’s rules continue to operate independently, without bending to their influence.

With accessible exposure through spot ETFs, Bailey questioned the typical distinction between companies that specifically hold Bitcoin for treasury purposes and those that use it in daily operations. He claimed the essential issue is whether a company can increase its Bitcoin holdings per share over time, highlighting capital allocation and execution over balance sheet size.

Nakamoto Holdings’ approach and analyst outlook

Nakamoto Holdings, a Bitcoin-focused public company listed on NASDAQ as NAKA, has expanded its business to include media, conferences, education, asset management, advisory, and treasury operations relating to Bitcoin. Vitanza described Nakamoto Holdings’ multi-faceted approach as one of the more innovative among Bitcoin-native public companies, while noting the approach still needs to prove its long-term viability.

TD Cowen currently rates Nakamoto Holdings as a Buy, while TD Securities has disclosed that it is a market maker in the company’s stock.

Mini dictionary: Nakamoto Holdings is a US-based Bitcoin-focused holding company operating in sectors such as media, education, asset management, and advisory services.
