Ethereum slipped under the $2,400 mark following renewed selling pressure brought on by the Senate’s failure to pass the CLARITY Act, a regulatory proposal aimed at providing clearer guidelines for digital assets. The unsuccessful 49–50 vote sparked a wider downturn in cryptocurrencies, causing technical momentum across major assets to weaken and shifting investor focus to the Federal Reserve’s upcoming signals.

Market reversal after CLARITY Act defeat

Only a few days before the vote, Ethereum had touched $2,600, with traders eyeing a potential move toward $3,000. This reversal marks a significant change in sentiment, as ETH broke through a key support level that had previously helped steady the market during downturns.

The failed CLARITY Act vote also impacted Bitcoin, which dropped below $75,000 amid the regulatory setback. The legislation was intended to clarify legal standards for the treatment of cryptocurrencies in the United States.

Mini dictionary: CLARITY Act, a proposed US law designed to bring regulatory clarity to the crypto sector by defining digital asset classifications and establishing clearer compliance standards for market participants.

A bout of volatility followed, with approximately $300 million in leveraged long positions across various cryptocurrencies being liquidated within minutes. Ethereum was affected as part of this broader leverage reset.

Investment vehicles tracking digital assets also saw sharp outflows. Combined Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs registered $592 million in net outflows on September 15, with Ethereum funds alone accounting for $141 million.

Ethereum ETF$141 million
Total$592 million

From bullish momentum to renewed caution

The recent outflows reversed a trend observed just a week ago, when inflows to Ethereum funds were rising and exchange balances continued to decline. This dynamic had fueled optimism among some market participants, who speculated that Ethereum might be running low on short-term sellers.

Despite ongoing constraints on supply, persistent near-term selling has outweighed bullish factors for now. Technical analysts are watching whether ETH can reclaim the $2,400 level as a first step toward stabilizing its price.

Short-term selling has taken precedence, with technical strength remaining weak after Ethereum fell through major support.

Should ETH regain control above $2,400, resistance between $2,465 and $2,526 comes into play. Sustained movement through this range would improve the outlook for another run at $2,600.

If the asset stays below $2,400, increased selling could continue to pressure the price towards lower support zones, with particular focus on the $2,300 area.
