Ethereum rebounded to approximately $2,500 after briefly dipping to $2,370 this week, as renewed buying activity emerged despite the Federal Reserve’s recent interest rate hike and significant volatility across the broader cryptocurrency market.
ETF outflows intensify
While ETH price made gains, institutional demand in spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds moved in the opposite direction. Farside Investors reported that U.S. spot Ethereum ETFs saw net outflows of $142 million, $224.1 million, and $39.3 million between September 15 and 17. In total, about $405 million was withdrawn from ETF products over just three consecutive sessions.
This notable capital exodus comes even as millions of ETH remain held by these institutional vehicles, reflecting a divergence between spot price strength and institutional ETF appetite.

Key resistance levels and technical outlook
Ethereum’s immediate hurdle lies in the $2,500 to $2,550 region, which represents a critical short-term resistance. A decisive breakout above $2,550 would clear this barrier and could open the way for a move toward $2,800. Some technical analysts see an even more ambitious target of $3,300, based on a bull-flag pattern, but stress that confirmation is necessary before considering that level plausible.
Previously, similar bullish setups suggested a potential upside to the $3,000 zone if buying momentum returned. However, the current attempt at recovery stands out because it comes at a time of continued ETF outflows.
Three straight days of net outflows from Ethereum ETFs contrast sharply with the underlying long-term supply situation, as millions of ETH remain locked in funds and over a third of the circulating supply is staked.
Stake supply and market pressure
Currently, approximately 35% of all ETH is staked, reducing the liquid supply available for trading. This dynamic has produced a rare situation: significant ETH is being locked up while market prices face downward pressure from institutional outflows.
As a result, the $2,550 resistance level has gained further importance. If Ethereum can rise above it despite persistent institutional selling, this would indicate robust spot market demand is offsetting sales from ETF products. Nevertheless, a move beyond $2,550 would not immediately guarantee a rally to $3,000; resistance remains at $2,800, while another drop to $2,400 or continued outflows could undermine the short-term bullish outlook.
