Coinbase, the largest US-based cryptocurrency exchange, has disabled trading for IoTeX (IOTX), following a routine review of its listed tokens. The decision, which took effect after an announcement in late August, affects all Coinbase platforms, including Coinbase.com, Simple and Advanced Trade, Coinbase Exchange, and Coinbase Prime.
Trading Suspended, Withdrawals Unaffected
Although trading has been suspended, Coinbase emphasized that users’ funds remain secure. Customers can continue to access and withdraw their IOTX assets without interruption. The company stated, “We have disabled trading for IoTeX (IOTX). Your funds will remain accessible to you, and you will continue to have the ability to withdraw your funds at any time.”
Coinbase clarified that while trading is no longer available, all users will retain full access to their tokens and the ability to withdraw whenever they choose.
No specific reason for the trading suspension was disclosed by Coinbase. The exchange did not reference any particular listing requirement that IoTeX failed to meet during this routine review process.
IoTeX’s Evolution and Competition
IoTeX is a blockchain platform initially launched to power decentralized solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT) sector. Since its listing on Coinbase in August 2021, the project has shifted its focus to decentralized physical infrastructure networks (DePIN), artificial intelligence, and enabling machine-to-machine commerce.
This strategic pivot aligns IoTeX more closely with projects such as IOTA, which also aims to optimize the machine economy through blockchain technology and smart devices.
In response to the trading suspension, the IoTeX team reassured its community via X, stating that holders’ IOTX tokens remain safe and accessible on Coinbase, with withdrawal available at any time.
The IoTeX Foundation offered a 1:1 migration solution for holders who wish to convert legacy ERC-20 IOTX into the native token on the IoTeX network.
IoTeX also announced it will provide a seamless conversion path for users with legacy ERC-20 IOTX on Coinbase, allowing them to switch to the native IOTX coin through a 1:1 swap coordinated by the IoTeX Foundation.
IoTeX received a significant upgrade with the activation of its v2.4.0 release in June 2026, integrating features from Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade into its own blockchain.
Mini dictionary: Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade, set for late 2024, aims to optimize staking rewards and gas fees, and enhance scalability on the Ethereum network. By adopting elements of Pectra, IoTeX seeks to improve its own network efficiency and user experience.
IOTX Price Reaction and Market Impact
Despite the ongoing development and protocol enhancements, IOTX has experienced a substantial decline in market value. Over the past year, the token’s price has fallen by approximately 85%. Following Coinbase’s latest suspension announcement, IOTX posted a further 5% drop in value today.
| Event | IOTX Price Change | Reference Point |
|---|---|---|
| Year-over-year decline | -85% | Past 12 months |
| Coinbase suspension announcement | -5% | Today |
The trading halt adds to the challenges faced by IoTeX as it continues developing advanced infrastructure solutions amid heightened market volatility and shifting exchange policies.
