U.S.-listed exchange-traded funds (ETFs) tracking XRP have collectively accumulated over 1 billion tokens, highlighting growing institutional participation in the asset. This development underscores the token’s advancement as an ETF category, although the size of the XRP ETF market remains much smaller than that of Bitcoin or Ethereum.
Institutional Growth and ETF Holdings
As of September 29, U.S. XRP ETFs held approximately 1.13 billion XRP, according to Maketo, with a market value of $1.68 billion. This represents an increase from $1.44 billion in assets a month earlier, reflecting about 16.6% growth in dollar terms during that period.
The milestone demonstrates acceleration in institutional exposure to XRP, particularly since the introduction of spot XRP products in the United States. Despite this progress, ETFs based on Bitcoin and Ethereum continue to dwarf XRP by a wide margin in both value and total assets under management.
Comparing Crypto ETF Sectors
Current data from Bitbo indicate that U.S. Bitcoin ETFs collectively hold around 1.29 million BTC worth roughly $108 billion. That figure represents more than 6% of Bitcoin’s total capped supply of 21 million coins.
BlackRock’s IBIT, the largest U.S. Bitcoin ETF, alone manages over 800,000 BTC, holding significantly more assets than the entire XRP ETF space.
Ethereum ETFs in the U.S. market also remain out in front. Several million ETH are held across spot products in the country, corresponding to total assets in the tens of billions of dollars, depending on the tracking methodology used.
| ETF Category | Total Holdings | Market Value |
|---|---|---|
| XRP | 1.13 billion XRP | $1.68 billion |
| Bitcoin | 1.29 million BTC | $108 billion |
| Ethereum | Several million ETH | Tens of billions of dollars |
Despite the smaller scale, XRP ETFs have at times led in daily net inflows, even as Bitcoin and Ethereum funds experienced net outflows. This divergence highlights positive momentum for XRP products but is not yet enough to shift the balance in overall ETF assets.
Fund Growth and Industry Concentration
Coinpaper recently reported that seven spot XRP ETFs in the U.S. together held about 1.1 billion XRP despite significant price volatility in the token this year. This rapid expansion has continued as new institutional offerings reached the market.
Bitwise’s XRP ETF has emerged as one of the market leaders, reporting over $600 million in assets. Several established funds have accumulated the majority of these XRP holdings, reflecting increasing concentration within the sector. Institutions such as Coinbase Custody and BNY Mellon, two prominent financial service providers, underpin the structure of these products for added security and operational reliability.
Mini dictionary: Coinbase Custody is a digital asset storage service designed for institutional investors, offering secure offline storage solutions. BNY Mellon is one of the world’s largest asset servicing companies, providing custody and related financial services to institutional clients.
XRP ETF inflows have at times outpaced those for Bitcoin and Ethereum, but overall market size remains significantly smaller.
