Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the landscape of cryptocurrency security, with AI-driven systems preventing what experts describe as potential multibillion-dollar disasters. In 2026, a series of critical vulnerabilities across several major networks came to light, illustrating the growing importance of AI in protecting digital assets. Coin Bureau recently highlighted three separate incidents where AI tools shielded a combined $190 billion in value from compromise.
The XRP Ledger’s decade-old critical flaw
Veria Labs’ Veria AI discovered an integer overflow vulnerability within the XRP Ledger’s payment engine, a flaw undetected since 2015. The issue could have enabled a user to create 18.45 trillion XRP in a single unauthorized transaction—a figure 184 times greater than XRP’s official 100 billion supply.
Veria Labs confirmed that the attack could be repeated, potentially allowing illicit creation of countless new XRP in large increments. At the time the issue was disclosed, XRP’s market capitalization was approximately $94 billion, putting the network at substantial risk.
For this discovery, Veria Labs received the XRP Ledger Foundation’s highest bug bounty of $250,000. Foundation officials emphasized that no incident of unauthorized token issuance had been detected throughout the ledger’s history.
JUST IN: AI has now saved crypto from more than $190 billion in potential exploits across $XRP and $ZEC. Veria AI helped find a decade-old flaw that could have minted 18.45 trillion XRP from nothing.
Cantina Apex’s signature verification discovery
Cantina AI’s autonomous bug-hunting platform, Apex, uncovered another significant flaw in the proposed Batch amendment for the XRP Ledger. A logic error in signature validation permitted attackers to design batch transactions that transferred funds from victims’ accounts, bypassing the need for their private keys.
Cantina and Spearbit CEO Hari Mulackal noted that this single vulnerability put nearly $80 billion at immediate risk. The XRP Ledger validator community quickly rejected the amendment, and an emergency patch was introduced to secure the network.
Zcash’s zero-knowledge proof vulnerability
On May 29, researcher Taylor Hornby, with the help of Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.8 and a proprietary auditing suite, identified a flaw in the Zcash Orchard shielded pool that had existed since May 2022. This bug allowed for undetectable, unlimited creation of counterfeit ZEC tokens through fraudulent zero-knowledge proofs.
Once Hornby reported his findings, developers patched the protocol on June 2. While ZEC’s price dropped sharply following public disclosure, there were no verified instances of successful exploitation.
AI is no longer just a tool for building products. In crypto, it is becoming the infrastructure that protects them.
Improved technical vigilance, especially through AI and market analytics, remains essential as the industry grows. In the meme token market, an internet trend can transform into millions of dollars of interest within days. According to data from Fomo App, an investor turned a $99 purchase of “Niu Lai” into approximately $370,000, illustrating the risks and rewards possible in a fast-moving environment. Vigilant tracking of investor timing and token selection has become just as important as monitoring price charts. Fomo App offers a unified platform featuring token discovery, real-time trade notifications, investor leaderboards, and integrated social feeds, aiming to simplify navigation of the meme token world.
XRP expands AI-driven payment infrastructure
Beyond enhancements in security, XRP is pushing forward autonomous payment solutions with the x402 protocol. This framework lets AI agents make direct payments for APIs and computing resources. Since surpassing 1 million x402 transactions, the XRP Ledger has now processed over 10 million such payments in under three months.
Ripple recently joined the x402 Foundation as a Premier Member, accompanied by companies such as Visa, Mastercard, Google, and Stripe. AI-driven operations now account for 25% of all network transactions. Additionally, the XRPL AI Hub currently lists 160 merchants and 2,276 active services on its roster.
