Yuga Labs, the creator of Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC), has unveiled Mudwater, a new trading card collection that bridges both physical and digital formats using Solana‘s blockchain. The release offers eligible collectors the chance to claim exclusive cards, with a built-in mechanism to reward holders with APE tokens based on ongoing trading activity.
Physical and digital cards backed by BAYC art
Mudwater features 120 unique pieces of artwork drawn from the well-known BAYC collection, including standard, foil, serialized, and rare cracked-ice editions. Eight of the cards are one-of-one cracked-ice serialized versions, adding an additional rarity element to the offering.
Each BAYC NFT enables holders to claim 10 packs of Mudwater cards, while each MAYC NFT allows for two packs. Every pack consists of 10 individual cards. Yuga Labs has restricted Mudwater’s production run to 10,000 boxes, heightening the collection’s exclusivity.
Collectors gain access to Mudwater card packs via Totems, which are airdropped to qualifying wallets. The packs can be claimed directly using these Totems, aligning each allocation with the user’s BAYC or MAYC NFT holdings.
Mudwater brings BAYC artwork into a dual-format trading card collection on Solana, opening claims to all Bored Ape and Mutant Ape holders. The release combines on-chain digital assets with real-world collectibles, expanding the BAYC universe beyond profile pictures.
Yuga Labs has partnered with OCAP Games to produce the physical cards, which are printed on orange core paper, providing collectors with tangible assets in addition to digital ownership rights supported by Solana’s blockchain.

2.5% APE rewards mechanism ties trading to token distribution
Mudwater introduces a unique trading-linked reward for collectors. Yuga Labs allocates 2.5% of Mudwater’s card trading volume to purchasing APE tokens, which are then distributed proportionally to current Mudwater card holders.
This arrangement means that collectors not only access exclusive art collectibles, but also receive additional value in the form of APE tokens, depending on the ongoing secondary market activity. Distributions are adjusted according to the size of a user’s collection.
For example, a collector with a substantial share of Mudwater cards would, in turn, receive a larger share of distributed APE tokens. Distribution amounts will fluctuate with the trading activity and eligible volume generated from card sales.
| Holder type | Packs per NFT | Cards per pack | APE Rewards |
|---|---|---|---|
| BAYC holder | 10 | 10 | Proportional |
| MAYC holder | 2 | 10 | Proportional |
Totems, card packs, and individual cards are now available for trading on OpenSea, supporting both primary distribution and secondary market activity. The ultimate trading volume and resulting APE distributions will depend on participant activity after launch.
Mudwater’s integrated mechanism links collectible card trading directly to token rewards and community incentives, blending physical and digital collecting with blockchain-based benefits.
The launch broadens the Bored Ape Yacht Club ecosystem, offering additional engagement avenues for both NFT collectors and APE token holders. It signals Yuga Labs’ continued focus on combining traditional collecting and emerging blockchain possibilities.
