XRP inflows to exchanges rose sharply over the past month, reaching a seven-month high as more than 6 billion tokens moved onto trading platforms. This surge in deposits comes at a time when outflows from large holders, known as whales, have dropped to their lowest levels in five years.
XRP inflows surge while whale activity slows
Recent analysis from CryptoQuant, a leading onchain data provider, shows that rolling 30-day inflows to exchanges reached 6.05 billion XRP as of October 19. This level has not been seen since March, with inflow volume doubling since the middle of August.
During this period, XRP’s price against the US dollar rose from around $1 to as high as $1.70 before sliding back to $1.30. While these inflows generally suggest increased activity and liquidity, they have not been accompanied by a commensurate rise in large-investor engagement.
“The rise in total inflows to more than 6 billion XRP, reaching a seven-month high, signals a clear shift in asset movement toward exchanges. This could reflect increased trading activity and liquidity on these platforms, or a rise in the movement of XRP between wallets and exchanges,” CryptoQuant stated.
Meanwhile, whale outflows—large-scale withdrawals by major holders—have plummeted. The 90-day moving average of whale outflows is now $49.7 million, marking its lowest level since October 2021 and representing a decline of 98.6% from the February 2025 peak of $3.5 billion, which followed XRP’s all-time high of $3.40.
CryptoQuant noted shrinking interest from large investors, suggesting whales may be waiting for more attractive price levels before accumulating additional XRP. The analytics firm indicated that without whale participation, buying volume could remain subdued despite the rise in exchange deposits. However, XRP demonstrated notable resilience during the last crypto market downturn in 2026.

Profit-taking slows in Bitcoin as rangebound trade continues
Bitcoin investors appeared more cautious in October, with price movements confined between $80,000 and $87,000. This limited volatility contributed to a slowdown in realized profits for holders of BTC.
Glassnode, a blockchain analytics provider, reported in its latest Market Pulse bulletin that the realized profit/loss ratio for Bitcoin fell from 0.8 to 0.4 within the last week, marking a 50% decline. This drop points to a cooling of realized profit activity relative to losses, and reflects subdued sentiment among market participants.
According to the analytics platform, profit-taking activity has slowed compared to loss realization, signaling a transition toward a quieter market environment and a reduction in aggressive trading by holders.
Glassnode continues to monitor onchain profit and loss metrics as a way of measuring sentiment and positioning among Bitcoin holders. Such indicators provide insights into market psychology during periods of consolidation or volatility.
