The XRP Ledger has experienced a notable surge in network activity. According to data from analytics platform XRPScan, the number of active accounts rose sharply to 25,700 on October 21, marking a 12% increase compared to the previous day. Over the last month, the daily average stood at 18,600 accounts, highlighting the significance of this latest jump.
Active and Returning Wallets
Out of the total active accounts, 4,500 were newly created—up 35.6% from earlier figures. The majority of active accounts, however, already existed on the ledger. This trend suggests that many previously dormant wallets have returned to activity, rather than an overwhelming influx of new users. Analysts stated this mix indicates both organic growth and renewed engagement among existing participants, which could be positive for network health.
Supporting these user trends, the volume of total transactions on the XRP Ledger surged 55.9% to 3.5 million. Successful transactions, which reflect operations completed without errors, rose 67.8% to 2.9 million in the same period. Additionally, average transactions per ledger reached 179.34—a 61.5% increase—indicating the network is handling increased load without disruption.

Mixed Signals Across Network Metrics
Despite these positive signs, several key metrics posted declines. Payments processed on the ledger fell 4.4% to 741,900, and total payment volume dropped by nearly half to 350.9 million XRP. The count of “active users,” a different measure from active accounts, declined 50% to 85,200, signaling the network is not nearing its all-time high of 106,000 active accounts.
| Metric | Current Value | Change (%) |
|---|---|---|
| Active accounts | 25,700 | +12.0 |
| New accounts | 4,500 | +35.6 |
| Transactions | 3.5 million | +55.9 |
| Successful transactions | 2.9 million | +67.8 |
| Payments | 741,900 | -4.4 |
| Payment volume | 350.9 million XRP | -49.6 |
| Active users | 85,200 | -50.0 |
On-chain fees also responded to the uptick in use. Around 747.6 XRP were burned as transaction fees, a 20% increase over previous data. XRP transaction fees are destroyed rather than collected, which marginally reduces the token’s circulating supply as activity rises.
Many of the active accounts returning to the XRP Ledger appear to be older wallets reengaging with the network, with new account growth accounting for just a fraction of the overall increase in daily activity.
Price Remains Rangebound Despite Ledger Growth
In trading terms, XRP is currently priced near $1.33, after fluctuating between $1.32 and $1.37 during the last 24 hours. The token’s price remains below a key long-term average in the $1.37 to $1.40 range, which has previously acted as resistance. Support levels have formed around $1.25, matching the price floor from earlier this month.
The relative strength index (RSI), a widely used momentum indicator, remains below its midpoint and signals continued weak buying interest. Market volume has also been subdued for several weeks, reflecting uncertainty among traders.
A move above $1.40 would serve as a major technical indicator, potentially aligning price with the positive on-chain trends. But if XRP drops below $1.25, it could suggest a waning outlook despite increased network activity. For now, the XRP Ledger is busier, but trading action has yet to follow suit.
If network activity stays elevated for several days, it could eventually translate to real growth and price appreciation for XRP.
