Ethereum faces ongoing pressure after declining by approximately 12% in October, with its value dropping from around $2,684 at the start of the month to the $2,350–$2,370 range as of October 24. The cryptocurrency, which ranks as the second-largest by market capitalization, has found it difficult to maintain levels above $2,500, resulting in uncertainty among investors over whether it can hold the $2,300 support or face renewed selling.

Institutional Flows and ETF Withdrawals

The recent slide in Ethereum’s price has coincided with sustained outflows from U.S. spot exchange-traded funds. Over the last 30 trading sessions, cumulative net withdrawals from these funds reached approximately $671 million, with outflows reported on 19 days during this period. Persistent ETF selling has been cited as a key factor weighing on market sentiment.

However, on October 23, there was a modest reversal as net inflows totaled about $4.4 million, led by Fidelity’s FETH fund, which attracted roughly $3.6 million. Although this inflow is minor compared to the recent withdrawals, it signals that institutional selling pressure is not consistent every day.

Coinpaper evaluated BlackRock’s fund withdrawals, pointing to these institutional moves as a contributing factor to Ethereum’s continued weakness ahead of the Federal Reserve’s meeting scheduled for October 28.

On the corporate side, accumulation has continued. BitMine, a digital asset management company, reported holding around 6.04 million ETH as of October 19, moving closer to its goal of controlling 5% of Ethereum’s circulating supply. This accumulation effort provides some counterbalance to ETF outflows but has not fully offset the selling pressure in the market.

Mini dictionary: BitMine, a digital asset manager, is known for acquiring and holding substantial quantities of major cryptocurrencies, often as part of long-term investment strategies.

Price Analysis and Key Technical Levels

Ethereum’s near-term outlook remains uncertain, with technical indicators suggesting that a recovery will require buyers to reclaim the $2,400 threshold. The next significant resistance cluster appears between $2,490 and $2,550, corresponding to the 20-day and 50-day moving averages, currently near $2,491 and $2,548 respectively as of October 24.

A strong move above these levels could pave the way for Ethereum to retest $2,600 and potentially $2,700, representing an approximate 10% move higher from the current $2,360 zone. On a longer-term view, Citi has put forward a 12-month target of $3,028, although analysts caution that this should not be confused with short-term estimates.

Key LevelsRecent PriceAveragePotential Outcome
Support$2,300 – $2,313–Possible rebound area
Resistance$2,490 – $2,55020-day: $2,491
50-day: $2,548
Breakout may trigger rally
Target Up$2,600 – $2,700–Next bullish step
Target Down$2,150 – $2,200–Deeper correction risk

A pronounced move above $2,500 would strengthen the bullish case for ETH, while a breakdown below $2,300 could expose the cryptocurrency to further downside, especially if ETF withdrawals intensify or the broader market deteriorates.

Network Upgrades and Further Outlook

Ethereum’s upcoming Glamsterdam testnet milestone is expected to attract developer and investor attention. The Hoodi activation, scheduled for October 26, will test a 200-million gas limit. This step forms part of Ethereum’s broader scaling efforts and does not indicate an imminent mainnet launch.

Mini dictionary: A testnet is an alternative blockchain used for experimentation and testing without risking real assets. Gas limit refers to the maximum computational effort for processing transactions and executing smart contracts within a block.

While successful trials of network upgrades like the Glamsterdam testnet may boost confidence in Ethereum’s technical development, such progress does not guarantee immediate increases in ETH demand or price appreciation.

On the downside, the $2,300–$2,313 region has proven pivotal, with buyers stepping in at these levels during pullbacks on October 15 and October 18. A sustained move below this range could send prices toward the $2,150–$2,200 area, especially if institutional outflows increase or the wider digital asset sector faces additional strain. Prices falling from $2,360 to $2,150 would mark nearly a 9% loss.

Broader market conditions and institutional flows will likely remain in focus as Ethereum attempts to stabilize. For now, the cryptocurrency remains positioned between solidifying its long-term technical foundations and navigating short-term selling pressure.
