Spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds in the United States saw outflows totaling $137.9 million on Friday, October 23, according to Farside Investors. The withdrawals marked the second consecutive session of net redemptions from Bitcoin funds, with BlackRock’s IBIT recording the largest single-day loss.
Major Bitcoin ETF Redemptions Led by IBIT and FBTC
BlackRock’s IBIT experienced net outflows of $110.3 million, representing the day’s largest withdrawal among Bitcoin funds. Fidelity’s FBTC followed with $31.8 million in redemptions, bringing combined outflows from these two largest U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs to $142.1 million—exceeding the total net outflow for the day.
Morgan Stanley’s MSBT was the only U.S. Bitcoin ETF to post inflows, attracting $4.2 million in new deposits. All other major funds, including BITB, ARKB, BTCO, EZBC, BRRR, BTCW, GBTC, and BTC, registered no flows during the session, according to updated figures from Farside Investors.
Net flow figures aggregate new deposits and withdrawals across all listed ETFs. Since IBIT and FBTC hold the largest pool of spot Bitcoin ETF assets in the United States, their daily changes have a significant influence on the overall market balance. A single substantial redemption from either fund often has a larger impact than smaller inflows elsewhere, as illustrated by Friday’s data.
Weekly Trends Show Volatility Despite Net Inflows
Farside’s flow records, which track movement since early October, detail sharp daily fluctuations. On October 19, Bitcoin ETFs took in $526.7 million, standing in stark contrast to the subsequent heavy outflows that persisted into October 22 and the following Friday.
Despite these sizable withdrawals, net flows for Bitcoin ETFs remained positive for the week, helped mainly by the strong inflow recorded on October 19. This pattern reflects previous trading periods when the price stabilized around $81,700 following notable ETF outflows totaling $635 million.
Technical analysis continues to play a key role for traders in volatile conditions. One analyst, Killa, compared the present setup to the trends seen in 2023, noting that Bitcoin had broken above its trading range and made a new weekly high. He suggested the market could now seek a higher low above the $74,000 level. However, he acknowledged this view is based on price action and not ETF flow data.
Killa described current market conditions as “very much bullish,” emphasizing that his perspective focuses on price structure rather than fund flows shaping the trend.
In fast-moving digital asset markets, monitoring technical patterns is as important as tracking fund flows. For meme tokens in particular, this level of attention can carry significant rewards. An example from Fomo App data showed that a trade involving the “Niu Lai” token turned a $99 investment into approximately $370,000. The app integrates token discovery and social features, making it easier to spot trending assets and follow top investor activity in this rapidly shifting segment.
Ether ETFs Steady Amid Recent Volatility
Spot Ether ETFs collectively posted net inflows of $4.4 million on Friday. Fidelity’s FETH led activity with a $3.6 million deposit, while Morgan Stanley’s MSSE registered $0.8 million. Other funds finished the session flat, with no net flows reported.
The day’s positive movement in Ether ETFs was modest relative to the sharp outflows recorded earlier in the week. Ether funds experienced withdrawals of about $110 million on October 22, with total losses reaching nearly $225 million between October 19 and 22. Friday’s smaller inflow offset only a minor part of these losses.
Analysts viewed the renewed inflow as a temporary pause rather than a full reversal of the withdrawal trend. For now, redemptions slowed, providing a brief break from recent selling pressure.
Analyst Joep Gerla indicated that Ether may sweep liquidity down toward the $2,200 level before attempting a recovery, suggesting a potential for continued short-term price volatility.
