Ripple could soon gain access to up to 2 billion XRP, with escrow releases set to unlock significant holdings. Two Ripple-controlled wallets, currently holding 500 million XRP each, have attracted close industry attention as the company’s latest scheduled escrow event approaches.

Ripple Holds Large XRP Balances Ahead of Escrow Release

XRP Ledger data reviewed by TokenPost indicates that, as of October 29, two wallets attributed to Ripple each maintained a 500 million XRP balance. These wallets, identified by XRPScan as Ripple 10 and Ripple 11, received the tokens through four separate completed escrow transactions on October 1. During this period, neither account recorded any outgoing XRP transactions.

On October 1, the first wallet received 100 million XRP and 400 million XRP through two escrows, while the second wallet was credited 200 million XRP and 300 million XRP via similar transactions. This kept each wallet at a half-billion XRP balance as of the end of October, closely watched by market participants for signs of potential distribution.

These developments come ahead of a major November 1 event, when another 1 billion XRP is scheduled for release according to the XRP Ledger’s escrow tracking system. The event involves two separate escrow objects, each containing 500 million XRP.

The combined effect of these escrow releases could place as much as 2 billion XRP under Ripple’s control. However, Ripple has not indicated plans to sell these unlocked tokens or to introduce the full amount into circulation.

Ripple is a leading blockchain technology company best known for developing payment solutions and leveraging the XRP token to facilitate cross-border financial transactions.

Escrow System, Unlocks, and Ripple’s Management Strategy

The XRP escrow framework was introduced in 2017 to foster predictability in Ripple’s token distribution and to manage market supply. At present, ledger analytics show that approximately 31.4 billion XRP remain locked in 98 distinct escrow objects controlled by Ripple.

Funds do not transfer automatically when an escrow’s time period ends. Instead, an EscrowFinish transaction must be initiated according to XRP Ledger rules. Past practice, including the October event, shows Ripple frequently returns large amounts of released XRP tokens to new escrows rather than distributing them fully.

Coinpaper highlighted that, after October’s gross escrow release, Ripple re-escrowed about 700 million XRP, resulting in a net decrease of 300 million tokens in its locked reserves.

This historical strategy points to the likelihood that Ripple will again lock up a substantial portion of the newly available coins, with the actual amount to be determined by on-chain transaction records.

As the November 1 event draws near, attention is focused on how Ripple might handle these unlocked assets, especially given recent market volatility and supply dynamics.

Market Impact of Potential 2 Billion XRP Supply

The possibility of 2 billion XRP being made available to Ripple has coincided with a period of heightened market sensitivity. In October, exchange deposit flows totaled 6.05 billion XRP within 30 days, though the data do not confirm all tokens were sold.

Institutional interest has shown signs of cooling, even as cumulative XRP ETF investments climbed above $1.8 billion. Coinpaper observed that the value of such holdings had recently declined in line with XRP’s market price. This underscores the complex relationship between institutional inflows and actual price performance.

Ripple’s business expansion, especially in institutional services, does not necessarily result in immediate increased demand for XRP tokens, as custody and payment functions can develop without direct token purchases.

Analysts continue to watch Ripple’s supply management decisions for clues about future price trends, particularly as large token unlocks raise questions about potential selling pressure.
