Crypto security company PeckShield has reported that more than 395 major hacking attacks targeting the crypto sector were detected in the first half of the year. The company stated that 386 of these attacks specifically targeted the decentralized finance (DeFi) sector.
DeFi Sector Continues to Be the Target of Attackers
According to PeckShield’s report, a total of 395 major hacking attacks targeting the crypto sector were detected in the first half of the year, with 386 of them directly targeting the DeFi sector. The detected hacking attacks resulted in the theft of approximately $479.4 million in funds.
In terms of the size of the stolen funds, PeckShield stated in the report that the top 10 attacks accounted for $378.3 million, which corresponds to 79% of the total losses recorded in the detected attacks.
While the majority of the attacks were concentrated in the DeFi sector, the top 3 methods used by attackers in the 386 attacks targeting the sector were logic errors with 46%, oracle manipulation with 15%, and privilege vulnerabilities with 14%. Attackers concluded 71% of their attacks on the DeFi sector with flash loans, while 29% were executed without flash loans.
Ethereum Network Became the Main Target of Attacks
According to PeckShield’s report, more than 10 public Blockchain networks were attacked in the first half of the year. Among these public Blockchain networks, Ethereum suffered the most damage with approximately $287 million.
Following Ethereum, other networks suffered losses of $37.47 million, with BNB Chain at $34.35 million, Arbitrum at $17.02 million, Bitcoin at $16.65 million, Optimism at $8.84 million, Avalanche at $8.75 million, Heco at $6 million, Polygon at $5.14 million, and Terra network at $4 million.
