Bitcoin struggled to regain its footing after briefly dropping below $82,000, with $729 million in net outflows from US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) over two consecutive trading days pressuring the leading cryptocurrency.
BlackRock and Fidelity Lead ETF Withdrawals
US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw significant net redemptions, with $484.9 million withdrawn on October 7 and another $244.1 million on October 8, according to ETF data compiled by Farside Investors. This period marked one of the sharpest waves of institutional selling in October.
BlackRock, a global asset manager and the largest provider of exchange-traded products, operates the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), which faced $207.7 million in net outflows on October 7. Meanwhile, Fidelity, one of the largest US asset managers, runs the Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC), which lost $105.1 million the same day. ARK 21Shares’ ARKB also saw $101.7 million withdrawn.
Outflows continued the following session, although the distribution shifted. Fidelity’s FBTC experienced $197.1 million in redemptions on October 8, while BlackRock’s IBIT saw reduced withdrawals of $5.5 million. Over the two days, Fidelity led with $302.2 million withdrawn, and BlackRock saw $213.2 million in net outflows.
This activity indicated that ETF outflows were not uniform, as different funds experienced varying levels of selling, reflecting a complex picture of institutional investor sentiment rather than across-the-board pessimism. The overall selloff removed about $679 million from US spot Bitcoin ETFs during the October 5–9 trading week.

ETF Flows Recover, but Macro Pressures Remain
Later fund-flow reports show that institutional interest in Bitcoin ETFs may have stabilized. On October 9, Bitcoin ETFs recorded $21.1 million in inflows, although withdrawals resumed with $65.4 million on October 12. Inflows picked up again on October 13, reaching nearly $109.8 million.
Subsequent inflows suggest that the sharp wave of withdrawals does not represent a permanent shift in institutional sentiment, even as Bitcoin remains sensitive to broader economic conditions.
Despite this short-term stabilization in ETF demand, Bitcoin faces ongoing pressure from macroeconomic factors. The US Consumer Price Index rose 3.7% year-over-year in September, increasing speculation that the Federal Reserve could raise interest rates further. Higher Treasury yields and a strengthening dollar limit appetite for risk assets, including digital currencies.
Market strategists point to several contributing factors behind recent weakness in Bitcoin, such as heightened oil prices, surging bond yields, and forced liquidations of highly leveraged positions.
Key Support and Resistance Levels
In recent trading, Bitcoin briefly touched approximately $80,337 on October 8 before climbing back above $82,000 and approaching $83,400 on October 14. The $80,000 level remains a significant psychological and technical threshold, with many traders monitoring whether buyers will continue to defend this area.
The $83,000 mark is seen as a near-term resistance, with a move above potentially opening the path to $85,000 and possibly $87,000, where selling pressure has emerged previously.
A failure to hold $82,000 could raise the possibility of testing the $80,000 to $82,000 support zone, a range identified by trading firm QCP Capital as an area of increased buying interest.
The interplay between ETF flows, inflation expectations, and rate policy will continue to shape both investor confidence and price momentum in Bitcoin’s near-term outlook.
