Chainlink, a leading provider of blockchain data and interoperability services, and LG CNS, the technology subsidiary of South Korea’s LG Group, announced a comprehensive strategic partnership on October 22. This move broadens a relationship the two companies initiated just over two weeks prior, focusing on advancing digital asset infrastructure in South Korea.
Expanded collaboration targets tokenization
Earlier this month, LG CNS introduced KITL, its new blockchain infrastructure platform. The company also signed memorandums of understanding with Circle, Securitize, the Canton Foundation, Chainalysis, and Chainlink. As reported by Korean daily Financial News, LG CNS described Chainlink as a supplier of real-world data such as currency exchange rates and fund prices that can be integrated into blockchain systems. Chainlink’s technology serves as a bridge connecting independent blockchain networks.
Building on this base, the October 22 agreement details a broader scope for the partnership. LG CNS plans to integrate the full suite of Chainlink’s platform and tools into digital asset systems it builds for financial institutions. The companies also intend to expand the adoption and distribution of Korean stablecoins and to jointly establish technical standards for Korea’s digital asset sector.
Mini dictionary: LG CNS is the IT and digital services arm of LG Group, one of South Korea’s largest conglomerates, specializing in smart technology solutions including blockchain, cloud, and AI for enterprise and public sectors.
Technical focus and institutional adoption
The partnership addresses three core areas: linking institutional systems to blockchain networks using Chainlink’s cross-chain, data, and orchestration solutions; working together to set standards for oracles, interoperability, and cross-chain technology for regulated digital assets; and collaborating on the broader market standards for Korea’s digital asset industry.
Johann Eid, chief business officer at Chainlink Labs, emphasized that the alliance will provide a foundation for compliant digital asset infrastructure in South Korea.
Hongkeun Kim, executive vice president and head of the Digital Business Division at LG CNS, said that financial infrastructure in the country is shifting into a tokenization era. He stated that LG CNS and Chainlink are working “to accelerate the growth of Korea’s tokenized securities market by enabling secure interoperability and real-world data.”
Role in digital currency initiatives
LG CNS is currently the lead contractor for Project Hangang, the Bank of Korea’s digital currency initiative. The first phase of this pilot has engaged approximately 80,000 users across seven major Korean banks. LG CNS is now looking to incorporate Chainlink’s oracle services into this national platform.
According to estimates provided in the partnership announcement, Korea’s digital asset market stands at $68 billion, with over 11 million domestic users eligible to trade cryptocurrencies. The Korean won is cited as the world’s second-most used currency in crypto trading, trailing only the US dollar. LG Group, the parent conglomerate of LG CNS, manages ₩186 trillion in assets across 63 affiliated companies.
