Hyperliquid Strategies is moving to strengthen its presence in regulated US markets, building on one of the largest token treasuries in the sector. The Nasdaq-listed investment firm reported that its growing HYPE token holdings now form the core of its financial and strategic expansion plan.

$3.5 Billion HYPE Treasury Fuels Market Plans

As of September 30, Hyperliquid Strategies held 38.52 million HYPE tokens valued at $3.505 billion. The company also reported having $254.6 million in cash and cash equivalents, with no outstanding debt on its books. This balance sheet structure underlines the firm’s heavy reliance on the Hyperliquid ecosystem.

The company’s total assets had climbed to $3.764 billion by the end of the third quarter, with the majority attributed to HYPE tokens. The current structure positions Hyperliquid Strategies more as a publicly traded proxy for HYPE exposure than as a traditional operating business.

In earlier moves, Hyperliquid Strategies expanded its equity facility by $1.5 billion, providing room for additional token acquisitions. However, the company clarified that the facility did not guarantee that new capital would be raised.

During the third quarter, the firm used $802 million in new capital. Of that amount, $785 million was spent to acquire 9.1 million more HYPE tokens, and $17 million was allocated for the buyback of 2.7 million PURR shares.

Regulatory Strategy and FCM Application

A significant strategic development is underway on the regulatory front. Hyperliquid Strategies disclosed that a subsidiary has submitted an application to become a futures commission merchant (FCM), a regulated entity authorized to carry client futures accounts in the US.

If approved, this subsidiary would be able to hold US client accounts for permissioned markets operating on Hyperliquid, as outlined under the proposed HIP-3 regulatory framework. This represents a move to bring Hyperliquid-based perpetual futures into the US market and extend the firm’s activities beyond token management.

The FCM application follows the recent announcement by Intercontinental Exchange, owner of the New York Stock Exchange, of a Hyperliquid-linked trading partnership with Trade[XYZ]. The partnership also aims to develop regulated perpetual futures markets for US participants.

Hyperliquid Strategies stressed that its FCM application has not yet been approved. The company cautioned that there is no assurance regarding the timing or outcome of the approval process, and permissioned HIP-3 markets will require separate regulatory confirmation.

Profit Driven by HYPE Gains

For the third quarter, Hyperliquid Strategies reported net income of $620.6 million. Most of this headline profit came from unrealized gains on its HYPE token holdings as token prices rose.

Net income was supported by $803 million in unrealized gains from HYPE, outweighing $12.3 million from staking and validator commissions, and $1 million in interest income. The company noted that unrealized gains might reverse if token prices fall.

Expenses for the period included a $172.3 million income tax provision and $15.3 million in charges related to the company’s equity facility.

Hyperliquid Strategies remains closely tied to HYPE’s market value, highlighting the risks of volatility in its core asset. At the same time, its operations over the past twelve months contributed approximately $834 million in value to the wider Hyperliquid ecosystem.
