Worldcoin’s World App has gained significant momentum with an average of 2 million daily and more than 5 million monthly users, reaching a total of 10 million registered users. According to Tiago Sada, product manager at Worldcoin’s parent company Tools for Humanity, these milestones came less than a year after the service was launched in June 2023, and the project now has more daily users than the total monthly users in January 2024.
Significant Developments in Worldcoin
Worldcoin stands out as a cryptocurrency project aiming to create a universal basic income. Users register their identities on the company’s World App by having their eyes scanned face-to-face by machines referred to as orbs. Remco Bloemen, the blockchain president of the Worldcoin Foundation, stated that the World App is not intended to be the only solution in the Worldcoin protocol:
“Our hope is that this will encourage other contributors to develop additional wallets for the protocol, given that different users have different needs and preferences for wallet applications. In other words, the Worldcoin community has expressed interest in alternatives to the World App, allowing a broader range of people to interact with Worldcoin in the way they prefer.”
Noteworthy Details for Worldcoin
One of the most remarkable recent use cases for the World App was the viral story of a user in Kenya who expressed gratitude for being able to buy a goat with funds received from a Worldcoin airdrop event. The crypto community supported this individual by sending an undisclosed amount of cryptocurrency, which was reportedly used to purchase more goats, increasing their total to 13, and the support continues.
The goat, pictured above, was named Sam by the community. When the owner was asked on social media platform X why they chose this name, they said it was in honor of Worldcoin’s co-founder Sam Altman. Altman is also known as the co-founder and current CEO of OpenAI, whose product ChatGPT is currently seen as the cutting-edge technology for productive artificial intelligence.
