Crypto commentator JackTheRippler has claimed that between seven and ten Democratic senators are preparing to support the Crypto CLARITY Act, a major piece of legislation currently making its way through the US Senate. His statement arrives as lawmakers approach a critical procedural vote that could determine whether the bill advances for further debate and potential passage.

Democratic support could shift the outcome

In a recent post, JackTheRippler said, “7 to 10 DEMOCRATS have agreed to VOTE in favor of the Crypto CLARITY Act.” He further added that Republican lawmakers would then possess the necessary votes to move the bill through the Senate next week.

JackTheRippler included a video from Steven Dennis, a congressional reporter, highlighting the current back-and-forth among senators over the legislation. Dennis stated that lawmakers are working toward a compromise that can be forwarded to the White House. According to Dennis, “there are seven to ten Democrats who sound like they want to ultimately pass a bill.”

Current discussions indicate there may be enough Democratic votes to bridge the gap and help the legislation move forward with Republican backing in the coming Senate session.

The Crypto CLARITY Act is designed to clarify cryptocurrency regulation and seeks to address issues important to both digital asset companies and consumer advocates.

Mini dictionary: CLARITY Act, a proposed US legislative bill intending to provide clear definitions and regulations for cryptocurrencies and related digital assets to reduce regulatory uncertainty.

Procedural hurdles remain in Senate

While momentum appears strong, public confirmation that these seven to ten Democrats have formally committed to supporting the CLARITY Act has not yet appeared. Recently, seven Democratic senators issued a joint statement noting that the bill, as presently written, is incomplete on ethics, consumer protection, and illicit finance provisions. Their support remains conditional, pending additional revisions.

Republicans currently hold 53 seats in the Senate. Passing key procedural votes would require at least seven Democrats or Democrat-aligned senators to join Republicans if all GOP members favor the measure. The situation could become more complicated if any Republican senators choose to oppose the bill.

September 15 vote is not final passage

The upcoming Senate action set for September 15 concerns a cloture motion on whether to proceed with formal debate on the CLARITY Act. Cloture requires 60 votes and, if successful, would launch up to 30 hours of further discussion before any amendments or a final passage vote can take place.

This process means the bill would still face further hurdles, and the September 15 vote is not the final determination regarding passage of the CLARITY Act.

Even with a successful procedural vote, lawmakers would need to debate and potentially amend the bill before any final decision.

Negotiations on key provisions continue

Senate negotiations continue over important provisions, including ethics standards, stablecoin-related rewards, and possible liability risks for developers of decentralized finance platforms. Some senators have indicated that stronger ethics stipulations are necessary for their future backing of the legislation.

JackTheRippler’s statement reflects optimism about the ongoing talks, based on recent public comments from lawmakers and congressional reporters. However, formal commitments from the necessary number of Democrats have not been announced, and the result of the key procedural vote will provide the next indicator of the bill’s progress.
