The world of blockchain and NFTs made an appearance in the latest episode of the American animated television series, The Simpsons. The writers of the beloved show took another step towards parodying the crypto industry after their 2020 episode. In the episode titled “Wild Barts Can’t Be Token,” which aired on Sunday in the US, Bart is accidentally digitized into an NFT.
References to Various Iconic NFT Collections and Artists
Blockchain and NFTs were showcased in the recent episode of The Simpsons, featuring references to iconic NFT collections and artists, including the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) and Beeple. The episode also poked fun at the speculative nature of some NFTs, as Homer initially despairs over Bart’s digitization but later becomes ecstatic upon discovering that Bart’s NFT is worth $1.5 million.
In a special episode back in 2020, titled “Frinkcoin,” The Simpsons explained how blockchain and cryptocurrencies work. Professor Frink, portrayed by Jim Parsons, best known for his role as Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory, introduced Lisa Simpson to the world of crypto.
Some NFTs Experienced an Increase in Base Price
NFTs, the darlings of the 2020-2021 bull market, have been struggling to regain their footing. The inclusion of NFTs in The Simpsons’ latest episode seems to have resulted in an increase in the base price of many NFT collections.
According to data from the leading NFT analytics platform NFT Price Floor, the base price of BAYC has seen a 1.59% increase in the past 24 hours, although it remains far from its peak price. Additionally, the base price of Mutant Ape Yacht Club has risen by 1.83%.
