Sky Mavis, known for being behind the popular blockchain video game Axie Infinity, has been working on promoting the use of the Ronin blockchain network for a long time. With the introduction of a new video game called Apeiron, the company announced that it aims to take a big step towards building the ecosystem.
Notable Steps from Sky Mavis
On December 5th, Sky Mavis announced that it has partnered with Singapore-based game developer Foonie Magus to bring a new video game called Apeiron to the Ronin blockchain network. Trung Nguyen, the CEO and co-founder of Sky Mavis, commented on the matter:
“Sky Mavis is on a mission to build and grow Web3 games. Foonie Magus’ leadership team has developed over 140 games and has decades of deep experience in both Web2 and Web3 games. I believe Apeiron, with its strong IP and similar gameplay to Axie Infinity, is a natural development for the existing Ronin community.”
The efforts on the Ronin blockchain ecosystem have been known as Sky Mavis’ mission since the hack attack by the North Korean hacking group Lazarus, resulting in more than half a billion dollars in losses for Axie Infinity through the Ethereum ecosystem last year.
Team’s Focus on the Ronin Ecosystem
The release of Apeiron, the latest game developed by the team, on the Ronin blockchain ecosystem is not Sky Mavis’ first effort to expand the blockchain ecosystem. The team had previously announced the launch of four games on the Ronin network in March. Sky Mavis announced that the daily active address count in the Ronin ecosystem increased by 300% in November, and Frank Cheng, the CEO of Foonie Magus, stated:
“Ronin has risen to the top in our search for a blockchain that prioritizes gaming and provides specialized support for specific projects. Sky Mavis has shown a deep understanding of the needs of game developers on the chain.”
According to a public announcement by the team, Apeiron is a card battle-based video game. Currently, a demo of the game can be downloaded on the Epic Game Store, while the global launch of the mobile version is planned for the first quarter of 2024.
