Recently, Clave, one of Turkey’s leading blockchain initiatives that caught the attention of Ethereum‘s founder Vitalik Buterin, has made a milestone innovation in the Ethereum ecosystem, drawing all eyes to it. About six months ago, it was announced that EIP-7212 would be taken to a new dimension and turned into the first Rollup Improvement Proposal (RIP), to be integrated into various chains.
The Team’s Current Goals
Explaining the reason behind proposing EIP-7212, the Clave team stated that it was to provide secure and cost-effective verification for the secp256r1 (P256) curve. Even more exciting was the announcement that after six months of discussions, the specifications of the EIP were very close to completion.
The team, having received feedback from Ethereum and Rollup core developers about the EIP, mentioned that after the feedback and discussions, a consensus was reached on the specifications of the EIP.
The team stated that the EIP would be proposed for Rollups, and the main reason for this was:
The most significant benefit of this EIP lies in its impact on Account Abstraction, mostly occurring in L2s – there is already a significant number of transition keys and SE-based AA wallets in L2s.
Expected Integrations to Occur
In the continuation of the announcement, some information about the integrations of RIP was shared. With the final specifications completed, it was announced that RIP-7212 would be integrated by different ecosystems.
We proposed the EIP as a social benefit, so seeing it make a real impact is surprising!
The team provided information about the integrations planned to be carried out on different chains, highlighting the need for cheap verification for the secp256r1 curve, as Clave will work on zksync, and the precompilation could occur in the second quarter of 2024.
It was also mentioned that Optimism’s Op Stack chain would have this precompilation by default if RIP is accepted after the discussion phase. On the other hand, it was stated that Polygon played an active role in the governance discussions about RIP-7212. As an exciting development, the integration of RIP for Polygon PoS and zkEVM is planned for the next hard fork. Lastly, it was indicated that Evmosorg had also merged the EIP to be integrated into their main networks.
