Solana (SOL), ahead of the launch of its new smartphone, has initiated the pre-order process and shared a significant update with community members that a major incentive event will be held next week. According to Solana Mobile, customers who join the waiting list for the second version of the phone through pre-order will be rewarded with various prizes, including NFTs as incentives.
Coming Soon: Solana Mobile Phone 2
Despite the challenges faced by its first phone, named Saga, the Layer-1 protocol has decided to launch the device’s second version. According to the details provided about the Solana Mobile Phone 2, it will retain some of the core features of the Saga, such as ‘Snapdragon® 8+ Gen 1, 12GB RAM, 512GB Flash, 6.67″ OLED display’.
Solana Mobile 2.0 will also feature an integrated cryptocurrency wallet, customized Android software, and a “decentralized app (dApp) store” for cryptocurrency applications. Like every upgraded product, Solana has also indicated that the new phone will include a new hardware feature while being affordable.
When the Solana Saga was launched, it had a price tag of one thousand dollars but later the price went up to three thousand two hundred dollars on eBay. On the other hand, Solana Mobile 2.0 will have a lower price tag compared to its predecessor. It is currently available for pre-order at 450 dollars.
Following the announcement of the pre-order program, the protocol recorded payments for over 30,000 smartphones within 48 hours. Moving forward, the promise of incentives could drive the demand for the phone to unexpected levels in the days or weeks following its launch, as was the case with the Solana Saga.
Incentives Increase for Solana-Based Smartphones
Before the Solana Saga was listed on eBay, the demand for the phone reached an overwhelming high, largely due to conversations about BONK, the pioneering memecoin in the Solana ecosystem.
Every Solana Saga buyer was entitled to a substantial amount of 30,000 BONK, which greatly increased the demand for the smartphone and eventually led to stock shortages in certain regions. The rush to get a piece of the pie caused the device’s price on eBay to skyrocket.
For the new Solana Mobile version, it is not yet certain whether any BONK AirDrop will be added to the incentives. However, its integration could go a long way in causing a demand surge for the device. The announced incentive program for the Solana Mobile Phone 2 could be as effective as the BONK AirDrop was for the Saga last December.
