The Solana blockchain’s cat-themed memecoin MEW announced a collaboration with animation studio LOCUS to create a new 3D animation series. MEW stands out as the world’s first entertainment brand and retail product line initiated by a memecoin community. LOCUS is primarily known for producing 3D animations and TV series in the Korean market.
Significant Step from Memecoin Project
Last year, LOCUS raised approximately $17.5 million in pre-IPO funding, focusing on international expansion and preparing for an IPO early next year. MEW aims to become the most viewed and recognized memecoin among fans worldwide.
MEW may start attracting the attention of film and TV audiences by expanding its presence in digital media with LOCUS’s 3D animation. Cat in a dogs world (MEW), a Solana memecoin project, gained significant traction with airdrop events targeting BONK, WIF, and Solana Saga 2 mobile phone owners when the token was launched in March 2024.
MEW, the first cat token to surpass an all-time high market cap of $900 million, quickly gained popularity among memecoin investors, marking the beginning of a new era for cat projects previously dominated by dog-themed projects. As a memecoin, MEW stands out in this process and is well recognized in mainstream awareness using digital media. Combining memes and popular culture, MEW also produces new art, clothing, and entertainment products based on character assets.
Details of the Process
LOCUS has produced established properties like Red Shoes and Yumi’s Cells, both popular in Korea, with their theatrical releases reaching 128 countries worldwide. Working with MEW could be an extension of LOCUS’s expertise in creating culturally significant beloved icons. This new partnership combines best-in-class animation with the Solana-backed grassroots community to bring the MEW IP to the masses. LOCUS DX Division Head Loe Kangsan Kim commented on the matter:
